Front and rear brake rotors: 2007 vs 2012 KLX250S
hi all!
between the 2007 (square headlamp model) and current KLX250S (2010-current), is there any difference difference between the brake rotors (both front and rear) other that the design (old round type, slotted and the new petal type, cross-drilled)? are the bolt holes the same? clearances? outer and inner diameter? others?
i'm asking because i need to know if the rotors are interchangeable without any modifications, just direct bolt-on.
by the way, i'm from malaysia, way over the other side of the world. bought a pretty worn out 2010 KLX250S and need to restore it back to working condition.
thanks.
Andy

You can use an older rear rotor as a bolt on if you pick up the caliper carrier with it. I am running an old 220mm (I think) rear rotor with the old carrier, traded off for the larger rotor carrier (I didn't have the right rotor when I got the bike). I think the newer rotor is 240mm. I prefer the smaller rotor, requiring a bit more effort in braking, allows me better feel for using the rear brake on loose terrain. I think one of the hubs had smaller bolts, but I forget which, front or rear, new or old. I think it was the rear, since that was the one I changed out. I think I had to drill the older rotor out. Not difficult though.
You can find the 250/300 rotors for low buck, so that's a good way to go. Just remember to get the caliper carrier for the rear. I bought a rear rotor for less than $50 and I found a front rotor that was advertised as a rear for $20 on ebay. You won't find the petal cut rotors for that kind of money very easily.
