Did you get any harshness by going heavier on the springs?

IMO the tyre is the limiting factor and perhaps technique. The front brake even stock will easily lock the wheel. Practise on grass going slow locking the front and releasing so you don´t fall off. Once you learn to lock it and release try it a little quicker (10 - 15mph) until you get the hang of it. What this does is to get you to recognize the feeling of the front wheel about to lock and back off just slightly.
IMO there is no point spending the money on bigger disks and suspension work (to help braking) unless you are going to fit road tyres. Having said that a Stainless Steel brake line is a cost effective way of improving the brakes. https://www.kawasakiforums.com/m_136812/tm.htm
Yes, I think my technique needs some work. Unfortunately, to find some grass I would have to ride several hundered miles .... I think I might head out to Yuma, Arizona and give some sand a whirl. The sand here in southern Arizona hides a lot of rocks where I ride.

I'm thinking I will ditch the stock tires. I just hate to waste a tire that has plenty of life left. However, if it keeps the rubber side down and me off the asphalt or someone's car hood it's a small price to pay.

this is just my opinion, but i think for me they are about as close to perfection as i can get with them.

The stock tires and brakes are not that bad really on the pavement. Wet pavement isn't fun but dry I never locked the front tire and had a few times where the rear lifted under heavy braking. I've bottomed out the forks on heavy braking with knobbies, I can be even more aggressive with my street tires.
