I'm new here I bought a new 06 at dealer in Jan. Love every thing about the bike! Ive got alot of answers regarding the bike off of this forum. Was wondering about the free mods. Can I just remove the air box lid without removing the vent hose and rerouteing it? My dealer says big gun exhaust wont be in for 6-8 weeks.Heard good things about Muzzy but I have to use rear foot pegs, I've got 3 kids to ride.Any other suggestions on exhaust?

First, welcome aboard. You have already found this to be a great place to learn about your bike. It just keeps getting better as new folks with new ideas join up.

As for your questions:

1. The carb breather tube mod (various versions) is independent of the air box lid mod/removal.
2. As for exhaust, there are a number of alternatives out there now. All are better than stock, so don't let yourself get pulled into an exhaust debate. If you like the looks of the Muzzy but the foot peg is your only issue, then rest assured that the pipe will work just fine with the pegs. You have two options: (a) grind a little off of the back of the peg [2 minutes on a bench grinder and you're done] or (b) remove the peg and reposition it into the "down" position and reattach. The obstruction is only when the peg is 1/2-way between fully up and fully down. It can reside in either position with no problem.

Hope this helps.

Hey welcome.... dont forget about the little search button on the top of the site... handy.

I wouldnt remove the airbox lid unless you rejet the carb, exhaust isnt as important when your just starting, a new snorkel, and rejetting would make a huge difference..

Personally id go with the HMF slip on pipe...

Welcome and as Chris said all you have to do is grind the back of the foot peg a little, to run the Muzzy and keep the foot peg. I rounded mine so nice on the bench grinder that I swear you can't tell it was not done that way from the factory. But it was also mentioned that any after market exhaust is better than the stock one, its all in what you prefer or end up with. Some guys really stand behind what they bought and some guys are not happy with the pipe they ended up with. I think we can all agree it pretty subjective. I'm running the air box lid off after installing the Muzzy and jetting the carb to 40 and 132. There is no issue with air box noise since the awesome sound of the Muzzy drowns it out. Again welcome

Hi guys, just installed my muzzy and rejetted my carb on Sunday. Removed all smog junk and took the air box lid off. What a change in the bike. As for the rear peg, it is touching the pipe but I am still able open and close the peg without a prblem. It does not touch the pipe when the peg is down.
