Default frame question

I have an 06 KLX 250 that I'm loving but I want to plate it. It has a scrap title from Michigan so no go. I found an 06 KLX 300 frame on Ebay and wondering, since the part numbers are different, if they'll work. I don't care what the title "says" 250 or 300. Anybody have a blown/scraped 250 frame they want/need to get rid of. (actually it'd be a in that case). Anybody have any experiences? Since most of the parts (body, suspension) is shared, I thought that MAYBE the frame is interchangable too. Thanks

In Floriduh you can "rebuild" a title to a scrapped vehicle...can you not do the same in Minn.....it's pretty easy here.

I reckom you will be ok swapping frames.

You may lose some things that make the 250 a true dual sport.
Helmet lock? Steering lock? And other mounting points that don't apply to the 300.
Battery cradle stuff? etc etc.

The basics are the same and if the 300 can be plated, I would say it's do-able with a bit of farkling.

FM, in Michigan where the bike was "scraped" it says on the title and was told to me again, that it cannot be titled again and was supposed to go to a scrap yard. They didn't threaten or even ask for it back cause it says "all parts salvagable." In my opinion, since there is a frame part number, that would be the same thing as a seat and therefore should qualify as a "part." But that's just me.

Neilaction, I'm not too worried about the helmet lock so forth. I just want to be able to plate so I can OCCASIONALLY dual sport. I have street bikes for riding locally. I just want to be able to hit the seasonal vacation to wherever and ride short distances to/from the trails and need a plate for that. If you can get BD kits and title bikes like YZ, KX... I don't see this as an issue. i was more wondering if the engine would mount up and if the headtube was the same. Gas tank, seat mount... You know the "parts" i have. Thanks for the input.

For some reason (no insult intended) it seems to be easier done in southern states, than northern ones? Apparently vehicles with "missing/no" titles, VIN plates, engine #'s "worn off" etc. are more common "down south there".

It's also really easy to re-title vehicles in Russia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and other "... tan" regions.
