Looks like you had a great time!! What mods have you made to make it an effective trail bike?

P.S.: Where were you at? I might be inclined to do that same trip. I'm in Houston.

On the bike mods, it's an '06, so it has 11" of travel, but that travel kinda sucked when you really tried to ride rough trail. It has a very decent fork and shock, but the damping was designed by a sadist. I installed a Race Tech Gold Valve kit revalve in both front and rear, and it was an amazing change. This was probably the biggest impact to off roadability. Uncorking the stock motor with a full Muzzy exhaust, airbox mod, DJ rejet, and a 300 cylinder/piston rounded out the engine performance. This model is basically the off road 300 model with electric start, full electrics, and delivered in a street wrapper. The stock, bulky control panel was replaced with a much more effective Vapor instrument panel. And of course there are little odds and ends like handlebars and other incidentals that most of us do to suit the individual.

The achilles heel of this bike will always be the extra weight compared to a real, off road, competition bike. But that weight also brings with it a more reliable engine and some of the other components that will need a lot more servicing on a race bike. The KLX and the WR250R are probably the two most competent true dual sport bikes in the smaller bore size.

On that riding place I was at, that is the Ross Creek Trail Riders on the Texana Ranch about halfway between Abilene and San Angelo. We've been on that ranch since about 1979. This is a club location, but it is a working ranch that also has exotic game on it...about 5000 acres. It has about 90 miles of singletrack, numerous ATV/UTV trails, and a 44 mile Baja track. Annually we have a state circuit enduro, some Grand Prix motorcycle races, a couple of state trials events, a couple of UTV/ATV races, and a couple of national regional off road truck/buggy Baja races of 250 and 300 miles in length. This place is an awesome place to ride and play. The ranch owner family are big time off road enthusiasts who've won their class in Mexico Baja racing many times. To ride here, however, you either have to be a member or be a free guest of a member. And not surprisingly, our membership roll is at capacity at the moment. If you want to ride there and check the place out, hollar and we can try to work something out.

Last weekend we had the Blackwell 250 off road baja race. There's always something going there.
