Default Fork spring replacement

First off I guess a brief intro is in order. I've been lurking on this site ever since I saw the review in Cycle World and I finally broke down and bought a KLX of my own in mid Feb. Ever since I've been staying busy riding some really technical trails and performing the free mods. With that being said my first upgrade is bigger springs for my lard ... So I ordered the biggest ones Racetech makes and tackled the front last night however the Racetech springs are aprox 15mm shorter than the stock ones which seems to affect the preload. Has anyone done this and if so do I need to add shims to make up the difference and if so what is a sutible shim material? I'm leaning towards a section of PVC pipe or fitting but looking for input in case there is a better alternative.

Default RE: Fork spring replacement

I've never had to add shims before but I dont think pvc pipe is the right material for that. Too much pressure could cause the pipe so shread a little and get caught up in the the valves, or tear the seals up. I would go with high grade alluminum.
