btw your muzzy spark arrestor looks way carboned (is that a word) up. I just checked mine because of the pic of your's ..... first time in like 3k miles.....mine looks light black but clean, not like yours......did the previous owner of that sucker run with 3 jets too large....or is that just some packing around the arrestor.....mine had a wee bit of packing there but nooone like yours.

that quiet core and spark-arrestorI don't really know about. I yankedthem bothout of the muffler after I delved into the carb the second time. It's not gunky, it's just dark. He may have been rich or I may have been with my initial 132 and 4th spot. I really don't know or care. My plug is nice and tan and all is good now. the picture of the qc after looking at it again makes it look darker than it really is. it's not gunky and I can see all the way thru the muzzy; but it's weird if you look thru a muzzy, it goes down in the middle somehow, not a perfect straight shot. I'm SURE it was engineered that way, just like the fmf powercrap is put there in the header AT DISTINCTLY THE PERFECT SPOT. LMAO

I just wanted to ask some questions and look what I started. This place is great!

 

who am I you ask? I've beenthe owner of two KLX's, both variations with different but similar mods including two full exhaust systems and two different types of jet kits; all of which I did all work on all mods- myself. I've been into the KLX several timeswhere you're still trying to figure out who makes a slip-on for the bike and even then, you don't know what you're talking about. Oh yeah, I've got upwards of 2000 posts. How many you got? stfu, because I don't like people coming on here spreading misinformation like you. ever notice no one is responding to you? I'll pass on calling fmf, I could care about anything they make or have to say. the powerjoke is just that, a marketing gimmick. don't you think if it was such a huge issue, that manufacturers of other pipes would have thought of something like that too? show me where a powercrap exhaust makes more power than a biggun or muzzy and I'll concede that they are superior to you, heck, I'll even sell my muzzy and buy one of the pieces of crap fmf's. until then, stfu with all the fmf said this or fmf said that. you're their perfect customer, one who takes everything they say as gospel. have a good day mate.

 

This seems to be a common error of logic on many of these boards. I really don't see the connection between #of posts and someone's knowledge or experience. The two are totally unrelated.


At the Vegas SX this year I was able to see a lot of the bikes up close. Many had the FMF and many that didn't had some variation of it made by other manufacturers. These guys are pros and their mechanics are pros and they know their sheite.

I don't know if it's a gimmick or not, but the fact that all these pros use it and a lot of manufacturers are trying to copy it tends to make me think not.

 

those pipes are far from anything fmf mass produces. again, show me the numbers and I'll bow down to you nobrakes, or should I call you anti-IG again? you so like to try and prove me wrong but hate to get skittish with anyone else. how about disspelling how this guy is so misinformed about what pipes are made and what aren't. you have such big ***** when it comes to anything that has to do with anything I say but you shrink up like a little baby when it may come to stepping on anyone else's toes. that's something I have no respect for you at- you're all talk unless it is anything other than an IG post.heck, my first post on this whole thread was that the '09 pipe will fit an '07 or '06, there is no difference and this is something that was proven at least three months ago by that dude that threw on the muzzy off his friend's '07 KLX. he even posted pics. me thinks you just like to show off your LV SX pics. whoopee. I was going to pro races 22 years ago.

ps. brian, you can't be so naive to the fact that unless those sponsors didn't offer their product for free that the pros would be paying to use them. they put their sticker on their fender and the rider gets free exhausts. you have seen nascar, right? it's not about who has the best exhaust, it's who gives who their exhausts in exchange for a place on their fender. I'm not sure, but I think I remember MC, RC, and Bubba all running Pro-Circuit full systems. betcha didn't snap a shot of any of those bikes did you?

Way off topic here but there must be something more to FMF's header designsthan just being a gimmick. Nobrakes showed other manufactures exhaust chamber design attemptswith the same goal of FMF. Why would they be doing the unconventional? The most notable and known is the Akrapovic design. Also if you look at the new KTM 450 SX-F it has a stock header with a chamber on it that resembles the Akrapovic. My belief is the increase in design and R&D of the "exhaust chambers" is to decrease dB's without a decrease in HP. FMF has probably more R&D on the subject than any other manufacture to date,although I do believe FMF's original goals were for pure power. There has been a big push to lower the sound levels in MX the last few years and I think the manufactures are going to have to find a way withoutlosing power.

 

AgoosSS, I do recall hearing that the purpose and / or side effect of the PB header is a reduction in noise. Even if there is no power increase, noise reduction is an admirable goal in my book. As I mentioned in the last sentence of my post for which IG attacked me personally for posting, I don't know if it's a gimmick or not, but it doesn't stand to reason that the industry heavy weights are going to these efforts for a marketing gimmick.
