RE: FMF Q2 Slip-on
that's really my point when someone says they are thinking of buying a slip-on. people always get carried away with the two points of it will save weight, and that it will flow better and sound better than stock. well, yes they are correct. but it can only flow as much air that is brought to it. the oem header is junk- pure and simple. the diameter is so small that it isn't even as large as the opening on the engine. the header is where all the power starts. if you're still plugged up, you're still limiting yourself to just the flow of the slip-on.
sadly, i don't know of many recommendations to steer you toward. FSW has one, but I'm not sure if it will match up your opening. that's why i like a full system, they're engineered for each other. your best bet right now since you want to keep your slip-on, is to get a 300 header, and have someone grind the sloppy welds out of the beginning of the interior of the pipe where it connects to the engine. there is documented weld goo that is supposedly hindering flow. people on here will always rationalize their slip-on purchase over a full system by saying they saved so much money and are only 1.5 horse down or such, but they know deep down that they'd rather have a full system knowing that that is the best mod for this bike. 1.5-2 horsepower on this bike is a bunch since it's so underpowered to start with.
if you want ultimate power, i'd recommend a BigGun EvoX system. several of us have these systems and love them. they fit perfectly and make huge power not to mention they bark and sound sweet. sure there are other systems that are good.........blah..........blah.
also, you may want to go to a 128 main. it could be starving for gas when you deliver throttle. i'd also go with a 40 pilot. i use 35, oem, but need a 40 as it is hard to start and pops a lot when decelerating from high speeds with engine braking. but just be warned, this is not a snappy bike like a mx'er. never will be. if you want snap, you need 331cc's, a large carb- at least 35mm for the big bore 331cc kit and not 34mm as a few have learned. a head port would seal the deal but really not necessary either. but still, you're not even close to 4-stroke 250 territory for power or torque. if you want serious power in a dual-purpose bike, you need a TE Husqvarna or a KTM. they're the ****. not even the new KLX 450 can do what they do.

But keep in mind that a pumper only does one thing - improves throttle response to deliver power quicker, period. A pumper by itself will not increase horsepower, unless you're replacing the CVK with a larger carb. All the other mods mentioned will increase horsepower, but sluggish throttle response, in general,is a hallmark of CVK carbs.

Seems to me that if the problem is "sluggish on the throttle response. Sometimes when you need power, you need it sooner than the bike delivers", then the answer is the only thing Iowaguy forgot to mention ... a pumper carb to replace the CVK.
