Default FMF pipe for 09

Anybody know why there is a different part # for the 09 from the 06/07?

Not sure, but I think I remember someone getting a Muzzy and it definitely wasn't the same as before, even though it said 09 bike on the box.

the '09 has the same frame yes, but the turn signals and rear fender are very different from the previous model. The new Muzzy, by the pics I've seen, is very different from the Muzzy I have on my '09 which btw, fits very nicely and is for a KLX300. The new one appeared to me to be an oval canister and really bad looking imo.
Won't say much about the FMF for two reasons, one I don't care for their 4-stroke exhausts, and two, it probably has something to do with the rear fender design of the '09 also why there are two different part #'s for pipes.

Which sucks because even though I don't like the "old" muzzy based on looks, I'd still buy it. The new one is bad looking enough for me to possibly decline based on looks. Wait and see on power gains I guess.

Just what I was thinking. 09KLXowner, do you have the optional silencer in yours? I am on the verge of ordering one and want to get it right first time. I know the muzzy is pretty loud without.

I just got off the phone with the kawi dealer. He has installed both the 300 and the 09 250 versions. He had an 09 version in his hand. He told me the can is the same. the difference is that the header has one clearance bend in it. The member that had pictures of his that seemed overly large may have gotten the wrong one. I will receive mine this week (09 version) with silencer cone, it will be interesting to see what it looks like. Hope it is not too loud for the neighours...

I have the quiet core but took it out. I cannot tell any difference after removing it in sound levels. They probably tweaked the midpipe bend to clear the footpeg which needed to be done. I had to grind off some of my passenger peg. It sounds bad but no one will ever know it was done. Plus, for $100 I got a full Muzzy in pristine condition sans a couple tiny dents on the inside of the header you cannot see.

You put any miles on that bike yet? You've had it for six months or so right?
