First trail ride on my '06 ...
Well, my buddy and I rode on some rugged powerline trails yesterday, a great first outing with my (new to me) 06 KLX.
The trails were hilly and rocky, some sections were quite extreme. (scary at times- adrenaline!) Big rocks from baseball to basketball sized on steep uphill and downhill sections. Woah technical, definitely outside my comfort zone.. But thats how we get better, right?
The KLX worked great! Great torque for the first gear, almost trials sections, clutch slipping, it thumped right along. I have a FCR35 and a short throw throttle, with a lightened flywheel, and the setup worked really well. (My coordination on the other hand..) I dropped it a few times, my Bark busters saved my levers and my skidplate got a bit of a bend! My shifter got pegged against my frame, I had to pull it out, and we were on our way.
Beautiful sunny weather, sweating, a bit of cursing, mixed in some very nice woods running on well maintained trails. Man I'd love to do it again soon.
My buddy on his 09 WR250 seemed to have a bit more problem keeping it on the power.. I don't think he was using the clutch enough, his first gear may not be as low as ours? He was quite pissed when he went down in the rocks and gouged his new FMF can pretty good! Character I say.. Also, his was as hard to start after tipping/stalling as mine even with the EFI.. I guess hot starting is an issue wether carb or EFI. He's not to keen on going back, hopefully I can convince him..
After the ride we put in an Erzburg video to remind us how beginner the trails really were (David Knight is like superman on a bike - how tall is that guy?) ..my buddy said after the video "You know maybe if we go back and try it a few more times it will get alot easier..." (Of course! -duh dude)
real off-road tires are on their way to me and maybe a big bore kit in my near future!! yee haw!

only got two pics from my friend, hopefully there are better ones coming..
me as we chill a bit after the first few rocky sections.. notice the grin.. Who knew that smashing your expensive toys against rocks while cursing and sweating would be so much fun?
My buddy finally riding out of a section that had him stumped. I had made it up, ran down, grabbed the camera as he was stuck and then shot a few pics as he made it up and out.. Notice the "new" FMF!

I'd say get that Utah skid plate. I wish I would have gotten mine first thing. I have a pretty big ding in my lower frame rail and the left side protector loop is bent up against the water pump housing bolt. Ouch!

Thanks for sharing...Now I can't wait for the week-end...I gotta get into the woods for a trail ride....my buddy's DRZ is just too clean...he gave the wheels and engine an acid bath at his work...way too clean!...lol He says he wants to ride some tough/technical stuff, so I plan on taking him onto some ATV trails I grew up riding..they are tough as the ATVs have the trails all chewed up, roots exposed, some mudholes...it should be fun.

I got a few more pics of the ride..
Here's my buddy gathering himself near the top of one of the rocky steep climbs..
Here's the view back down the powerline trail..
Another view, one of the worst sections behind us.. (steep downhill large loose rocks -fun) checkout Todd's brake lever.. it broke off an hour later in another rock garden.. I think he ordered hand guards right as we got back home.
Can't wait for more!
