Did you lay the bike down at all? I did that once and relized I bent my shifter and it was rubbing on the side of the engine!!! Bent it back out and it's all good now...

I did the same as Mudhore. Trying to teach a friend to ride and he dropped it, bent the shifter in and had to bend it out. The only thing is that I couldn't shift to anything at all. Let me know what the shop says punkenduro09 because I am curious.

Interesting someone got a brand new 09 bike because of a similar problem. Wonder if there is a problem with the 09 transmission. I know they changed the gearing a bit but who's had a complete failure with an 06-07?.

Is the shifter loose on the spline? Other than that I don't know.

I had a similar problem with my 09 from the time I picked it up to its first service. Turns out the shifter lever was loose on the spline. Tightened up and shifts a bit better now. It was popping out of gear all the time, not going INTO gear. It's still fairly rough it seems on downshifting but that might just be me

Does it stay in 2nd or go to a false neutral?
Does the lever move far enough or does it just not click in?
Is it like trying to find a 7th gear, it moves but there is nothing there.
Does the nuetral light work properly?

It sounds to me like you're going inside for this one.
Bent selector fork maybe?
Gears not moving on the splines properly?
Could it be a warranty job.
Check the easy stuff but I think your looking at a tear down and see what you find.
