No and yes. I prefer 13 for the street( I ride the SF version) because it gives 6th gear more grunt around 65mph, I don't have to downshift, just goose it and it goes

I went to a 13 for awhile as it was much better off road but it really took away for my highway riding as I was always at redline sometimes for an hour or more, went back to the 14 as I don't ride off road as nuch as I used to. 09 S model.

You can hit redline in top gear? Wow, are you at sea-level? Mods?
Honestly, even with the 13T I can not hit 10000rpm in top gear, and that's downhill with a tail-wind! I am on a well-tuned SF with pipe and jet kit at 1000m (3300ft).

I'm at 2200ft and I've never hit redline in 6th gear either

You do realize that the KLX is 6 speed?

Funny you say that. I ran 14/47 all summer. It was great, except above 60mph. My ride to work is 14 miles of twisty mountain road and I ride it at 60mph. With 14/47 I was spinning the motor at about 7000rpm. When I switched back to 14/42 I would be running in 5th, doing 60mph at 7000rpm, then realize I had another gear, doh.
And 14/42 feels gutless, IMO. Switching to a 13 for a happy medium.

I'm not sure about exact redline as the revs really go up not much power is gained but with the 13 tooth I ran it flat out on the highway alot. Even my local parts guy saw me go by and said I needed another gear as it was flat out all the time. With the 14 tooth I still run it as fast as it will go but I'm not so high in the revs constantly as I was before. At exact redline, no real idea, just out of revs. Like I said even if I rode the bike 50/50 on and off I'd go with the 13 tooth but I don't so it was back to stock for me as I can run it a little faster on the highway.

That's a myth about running faster on the highway. The bike just runs out of oomph, regardless of 14t or 13t sprocket. top speed with 14 was 92 indicated, with my 13t it was around 95 mph. The only thing you do is drop the revs and it takes a little bit longer to get to top speed.
