First oil change...
Hello all...
I did the first oil change at 60 miles and couldn't believe the amount of metal shavings in it, there was so much it looked like metallic paint!! Anyways, I'm glad I changed it and will be changing it again soon.
Thanks for the info. guys!!
For all you that haven't change their oil yet and are still under the 600 mile mark (dealer said to change it @ 600 miles...my a**!!!) do it soon.

RE: First oil change...
I changed mine at 20 miles after the mototune break-in, then 100 and 200 and 400 and 1000 and then 2200. After that first change I too saw the two different colors in the oil and it looked like metal flake, I'll bet its normal.

RE: First oil change...
I changed mine at 250 and 600, at 250 the oil came out pretty gross looking, 2 colors and a good bit of gunk on the drain plug. At 600 it came out looking almost the same was it went in just darker.

RE: First oil change...
I'm glad to find others had the same thing going for their first oil change. I'll take the suggestions and change it again soon... Hopefully it won't be as bad on the next change. I expect there to be some...but not as much as the first change.
Thanks again for the input. Soon I'll be doing some of the mods everyone is so happy with.

RE: First oil change...
TheHulk,
Hey, the most amount of wear in an engine happens in the first 30 minutes of running!
When I bought my KLX, I specifically told the dealer "NOT TO START THE BIKE!" Since I know him really, really well, he did what I asked him. I trailered the bike home, went through the setup myself, then started it up and ran it at about 3000 t0 3500 rpm for 30 minutes. Next I drained the oil, put in fresh oil and a new filter. Went out and rode the bike for 100 miles. Not going to wide open throttle and trying to stay close the to 4500 rpm limitation.
Came back, changed the oil and filter once again. Then took it out and rode it like I stole it!
Runs just fine, no problems and I'm happy with it.
