So far my plan is to get it off the bike re check that pilot jet and jet hole. Also verify while I'm there what jet it currently has.

drill starter jet to .018"

Check mixture screw assembly for completeness and check/clean the hole.

Could float height be messing with it? I dont see how but..

While you have it apart, you should take the time to do all the normal checks.. Read the thread on troubleshooting below, on my signature line..

A vacuum leak would certainly cause your problems..

I will definitely check it out. Can you post a link? If I spray carb cleaner around it and it bogs down then it's a leak right? How close do I speay it to the desired joint?

Also when I put it back together, should I use anything to seal the boot onto the carb? Grease, jelly?

I've heard conflicting views on this.

Consider just buying a new pilot jet. They are cheap and not always easy to completely clean.
Yes, float height could be messing with it and should be checked.
Post 43 in my 351 build linked below shows how I did it. I have been chastised for putting the carb in a vice, so maybe avoid that.

My float bowl was replaced with the float bowl for a kx250 94 - 96 if that matters. I forget what the spec was but I checked it with the depth rod on calipers and it was higher by a little but it was closer to the middle of spec than my old one.

+1 on the replacement jet.
Why am I not seeing these links? I'm on mobile maybe?

You may not see signature lines on a mobile. On post 34, I'm using clear fuel hose to check the actual fuel level in the bowl. This is an accurate check. The fuel level should be something like +/-1mm from the top of the bowl, where it seals to the carb. Having a different bowl may or not matter, I do not know.

well at least the site seems legit. the first thing you could have bought from amazon instead of that other site too. no comment on if it'll fit. 20 bucks for a screw though geez..
