you are so right thank you but here is some info for those that want it

- Read the 2009 Kawasaki KLX250S Q&A with Product Manager Karl Edmondson

Single-cylinder 249cc DOHC Engine
- Compact engine design is lightweight and high revving, with a broad torque curve
- Good mass centralization for superior handling
- Flat-top piston and pentroof combustion chamber deliver an 11:1 compression ratio
- Lightweight piston, piston pin and connecting rod enable higher revs for maximum power
- Aluminum cylinder features electrofusion coating, which allows a tight piston-cylinder clearance for greater horsepower and offers increased engine life thanks to superior heat transfer and lubrication retention properties
- A gear-driven engine balancer provides smooth power delivery from idle to redline

Liquid Cooling
- Dual high-capacity, vertical-flow Denso radiators provide reliable and efficient engine cooling
- Radiators feature tightly packed cores and a fin design for excellent heat dispersion
- More consistent engine temperatures allow tighter engine clearances for quieter running and sustained power, while promoting longer engine life
- Cooling fan is powered by a shallow-footprint electric motor

Four Valve Cylinder Head
- Provides maximum valve area for optimum flow to boost low end torque while providing improved high-rpm breathing efficiency for more power

Revised carburetor settings
- 34mm semi-flat slide Keihin CVK carburetor delivers the optimum amount of fuel at all rpm, contributing to improved response and power, as well as good fuel economy
- A new evaporative emissions system that meets strict CARB regulations means the KLX250S is now available in California

Electric Starting
- Quick and easy push-button starting
- Kawasaki Automatic Compression Release (KACR) automatically lifts one of the exhaust valves at cranking rpm, for reduced starting effort

Exhaust system
- Secondary air system helps provide clean emissions
- USFS-approved spark arrester allows the KLX250S to access designated off-road public riding areas

Updated Six-speed Transmission
- Allows engine’s full potential to be used
- Provides excellent acceleration as well as relaxed highway cruising
- Gear ratios amended to set 6th gear closer to 5th for improved performance
- Revised shift cam offers better feeling and allows gears to click into place with more precision

That's right - bone stock. That's why a simple rejet and opening up the airbox will wake the bike up. Independently done dynos have shown this. I specifically remember one done by the folks at Dirt Bike Television which showed 16.9 HP before doing any mods.

or nothing like that no manufacture is not all bikes are built the same you can have 2 stock klxs and have 2 different readings so if i put a stock 09 on the dyno with my back tire and it comes out higher than 18 your saying that cant be what if 19 or 20
Don't read more into what I said than is there. All I'm saying is that one dyno run showing 27 HP for a bike which normally shows 21-22 for the mods done is suspect to ME. I didn't say it was wrong, just suspect. That's all. Everyone else is free to come to their own conclusions, of course.

And in the famous words of Forrest Gump, that's all I have to say about that.

Big +1 on the fun factor. I know I've been guilty of getting hung up on the hp thing in the past, but these days I really don't give it much of a 2nd thought. These days I care more about my own riding abilities than sinking money into mods. I'm more apt to take a weekend off-road school and improve myself than to by performance parts and improve my bike. But then again, I've already bought all those parts so there are none left to buy! j/k, I think there are still a few out there I could get.

Heh Brian,
If I had your bike, I wouldn't worried about HP either.
My friend Jeff bought an 08 450exc, man what a bike.
Too much for me both in HP and I can't get anywhere near touching the ground.
His biggest complaint is sore arms from trying to hang on.

And I have to agree with barthel75, the klx is a lot of fun.

Is Jeff having more fun on his Kato than me on my KLX?

Exactly, make it so it feels good and ride it. The idea is to get GOOD at riding in the dirt and a few more HP will not help you one bit to do that. Especially on this bike. As long as you can loft the front wheel when you need to you have it made.

Thanks for the feedback

i thought the bike came with 18 HP? If not, than the dyno
wasn't that bad

The bike feels MUCH better than stock, i catch myself speeding
up to 75 in a blink than getting off throttle (that wheel whooble...)

I think there is more potential in it, i haven't installed the
vortex throttle yet because some claim its not a good thing
for maintaining steady speed, since i drive 95% onroad i decided
to stick with stock

i have not drilled any holes (except the whole for dynojet kit in carb per instructions)

Getting the smog stuff of improved exhaust heat, i dont even
need the guard, i was worried the FMF pipe will burn more pants
than the stock exhaust (which cost me about 4 jeans in 5 months )

I will post the dyno sheet on the weekend, maybe someone who knows
how to read it can tell me if jetting is ok, according to shop i hit it perfect,
but they usually work on street bikes only so im not sure if i can take
that for granted

Regarding the HP increase when changing the gearing, i dont know much
about it but i believe if i change the gearing i do get more torque out of
it since it pulls harder right? So someone with 13/42 would have a better
dyno reading than someone with 14/42, correct me if im wrong

I'll add the smartchain and different gearing to fine tune it a bit, hopefully
the 250 ninjas are back in stock soon, i want one for weekend trips
