First 200 miles with the KLX 250s
Took the KLX out for it's first *real* ride.
Did about 200 miles today.
I also took three of the 22oz MSR bottles so I could see what kind of mileage/range I had.
I hit reserve at 107 miles and reserve to empty was 137. So reserve was good for about 30 more miles.
So a full tank of gas to bone dry is about 137 miles.
What was also interesting is that when I filled the tank with the three 22oz MSR bottles, it only filled up to the reserve level.
How did I know that?
After putting the three bottles in, I put the fuel petcock in the "On" position and I only went about 3 miles before I had to put it back into "Reserve".
I think the MSR bottles are a pretty good solution and I think I will keep them instead of installing a bigger gas tank.
I also had a tough time keeping it below 5k. I think *lugging* the bike is worse than a little extra RPMs here and there before the 500 mile mark.
I love how light this bike is!!!
It handles Sand so much better than my Suzuki DR650.
It's a really great little bike and I'm really pleased!!

Cool, glad it's working for you! I also use the MSR bottles but the 33 oz. ones. And yes, it is hard to keep the rpm's down during the break in period but it isn't as critical as you'll find in the following posts! Went for a long ride with KawiKathy today as it was hovering around 80ยบ here in the desert - What a beautiful day for a ride even though I was riding in her dust trail!! Keep the fun meter pegged!

The consensus among experienced mechanics here in Japan pretty much agrees with the Mototune, RPM-wise, but they are against anysuper abrupt throttle changes, as in pinning it then letting it completely close from a pinned position. This leads me to believe that theonly thing they truly worry about is piston slap. I've had nothing but successful break-ins with this method.
