Will you should see if there are any bike classes that would help you when it's time to get your license, most states honor any and all schooling and your insurance may be cheaper. You'll have a jump start to get the ball rolling for on the road riding.

We have a good deal here in Pa. Free msf course. The basic course even comes with a complimentry mc and is over a few days. I took the advanced which is one day, your bike and at the end they give you the skills test to get your mc endorsement. Actually I think it cost me $10 when I first took my wriiten test, and that also covers the driving part. All in all a good deal :-)

Here in N.Y. I think it was $20 bucks for the written test and the road test was $10. they tell you the road test is free but when you renew your license with the new endorsement on it they charge you 10 dollars. The total is $30, a small price to pay. The written androad test was real easy. These bikes are not a "blend in" kind of bike they Stand Out and grab the attention of the police so you are likely going to get pulled over on these bright green machines. So far I have been pulled over 3 times on the KLX and I was doing nothing wrong. They just wanted to make sure I was all legal!
lol round here its just another bike, if it aint too noisy and has lights etc the dont take any notice. Unless of course your doing something stupid.

Not sure what the fine is here and I don't intend to find out. In VT at least, it's so easy to be legal I don't see why anyone would risk it. You pay $7 andtake a 25 question written test (needat least 20 correct, I got 24) and you get a permit that's good for 120 days, daytime only, no passengers, no out of state. You can renew the permit twice for free before you need to take the riding skills test to get your full endorsement. None of the restrictions bother me, and our riding season is not much more than4 months long anyway soIprobably won't take the skills test until next summer.

Or you canpay $135 for the MSF course and get it all in one fellswoop.

Here in Utah the motorcycle laws are loosely enforced and we have young sport-bike riders dyeing as fast as they can scrape them up.
Riding without a motorcycle endorsement rarely gets you anything more then a warning, I have never heard of an impound although that may change due to some bad press recently from a local TV station news documentary.

Our URE/MSF Basic Rider course is $180 and they provide the machine, it is two full days, completeion of this course will allow you to forego the driving test at the DMV.

The Experienced Rider Course is only $70 and you bring your own bike and is only 4 hours long.

I have had my endorsement since I was 16, my father insisted on me taking the basic course, I have since taken the experienced course a couple of times after going a season or two without riding when I’ve been overseas (Japan) on business and I have also taken a Military riding/safety course that was required to ride on a base that I was stationed at in San Diego.

No matter how good I think I am I always learn some new techniques and leave with some good solid fresh instruction under my belt. A good percentage of the instructors are motorcycle officers or racers.

I just got out of my advanced bike course and have to say, what a blast!!! The instructor asked me if i'd mind him trying out my klx and he came back with a huge smile. He couldn't believe how nimble the bike is and with the light weight he rolled through the course with ease. I don't think he had ever tried a dualsport let alone on pavement. Maybe he got the kawi bug from today.

Guys if you plan on riding on the road, take the coarse, It reduces the insurance and teaches you how to be a better rider. Old man talking, I work EMS and peel skilled untrained riders of the front of vehichleseveryday. Its' not the car you hit,Its' the rad I have to sivve you out off.

It sounds like you guys just need to get you motorcycle license! It is much cheaper than getting a ticket. A friend of mine got pulled overduring aroad block in the mountains of north Georgiaand cost us ( a group of 5 guys) a great day of riding. He got his bike towed and we had to bail his bike out and ride him on the back of my bike to the tow yard to get his bike out.I think it was about 200.00 to get it out.
