Finding rear shock service kit for 2006 KLX250, interchangeable from other models?
I have just taken my rear shock apart, with the idea of getting a KYB shock service kit to rebuild it. I cant seem to find the correct one, no-one lists a KLX250 2006 option for them. I did find one suitable for a 1999 model, have they used the same stock shock since then? I read that the KLX300 is the same but I cant find the kit for that one either. Perhaps there are other bikes that use the same shock that I can reference to get the correct kit number?
Thanks in advance, and hello from Australia.

I guess KYB made/makes what could be referred to as a "service kit", but I'm not sure that it's a big deal due to the few parts involved in a full service...seal head bushing, bladder, dust seal, main seal, piston ring, and O-rings. Usually the bladder is not needed. In fact it's usually only the seal head bushing and main seal that require replacement when a leak develops. KLX300 stuff fits the '06/'07 KLX250. You can also get the parts from Race Tech for shock rebuild, and as always Kawasaki has them. I highly recommend staying with the KYB seal head bushing. Aftermarket stuff for that part has been hit-and-miss. I think Race Tech even uses the KYB seal head instead of marketing their own. That KYB part seems to consistently be the best. It's unfortunate that some of the parts and kits you see for older KX 2-strokes in the 90's and 2000 era don't list their specs, because some of those parts are identical to the KLX300 and 250's. While shock travel might be different, the critical rebuild components are often the same.

I contacted KYB about the shocks on the back of my Zephyr 550, they can be rebuilt. The service dept told me they had no numbers, but to take one apart, measure and order the part by size. That would be fairly easy now that the OP has the 250 shock apart. Order by size.

Thanks, ive gone ahead and ordered individual bits from race tech. I havent noticed any sites that describe the parts by size, if I lived closer to a suspension expert maybe I could take them in and get them to identify suitable parts by sight. When I get them I will make sure I keep a record of the part numbers, that might help in future.
