This also brings up the futility of these "save the planet" types that want to shut down riding areas due to "damage to the earth". If that place was a bustling Army base only 65 short years ago, and now all that is left is crumbled pavement and no other sign that there was literally a small town there, isn't that an endictment of their claims that a few trails in the woods is destroying the environment? In a few short years of non-use, there will be absolutely zero evidence any trails even existed. Suburban development is 1000 times more destructive, yet that's perfectly fine. Pisses me off that I can't ride around the local lakes. They are off limits because I would be "terrorizing nature", as they like to phrase it. Grrrr.

Well as I said, I could have very well been seeing things, but that creepy, spooked feeling was 100% real LOL. I'm a total skeptic on things of the supernatural, I didn't believe in ghouls and goblins, but Tuesday kinda has me more open haha.

Didn't see anything today except some new garbage on the side of the road

As for your second post: It is so damn ridiculous. It took a grand total of a half century for the forest to reclaim the land. I mean, most every foundation has full grown trees coming up through them. Lots of roads aren't even there anymore, just paths without trees.

Perfect example of the hypocracy: They dug a gravel pit in the camp, and it was a play area for decades after the pit closed (it closed in the 60s I believe) but in their infinite wisdom, the Forest Service fenced off half ot it last year. Double-you Tea Eff? Its a gravel pit! The damange has been done! Its a hole in the damn ground!

I got no problem with a creepy feeling. It's what has kept us alive back when we used to live in caves and were sometimes prey to predators. "Hey Gorp, something just doesn't feel right - let's GTF outa here."

Seriously though, could have been a mountain lion or a bear or something nearby and you were able to sense it on a subconcious level, and millions of years of evolution kicked in and told you to "vacate A S A P".

Could have also resulted in a heightened sense of awareness around you and made you think you saw something.

I know that creepy feeling your talking about. I once worked for a restraunt that was in a house built in 1848. The house saw alot of action during the civil war. There were still a couple bullets stuck in the woodwork.
While i worked there the owner had a "paranormal" specialist come to the house. The specialist determined that the spirit of a girl who died by falling down the dumbwaiter shaft was haunting the house.
I don't believe in ghosts, but one late night when i closing up, i had to take some chairs up to the attic, I got that creepy feeling. It was like a cold air mass moved right thru me as i went up the stairs to the 3rd floor.
I chalked it up to my subconcoius after hearing those stories.
Anyway...it was a really creepy feeling!
Oh yeah, nice pics! looks like a good place to ride

That was a good fun story, I'm not quite as skeptical as others. I have experienced things, and have had people close to me have experience things, to lead me to believe it may be possible for the supernatural type stuff to exist. I'm still not a 100% believer in all that, but I'm leaning towards a definite maybe.

Nice pics, gotta love the age of the digital camera, such sharp pictures and easy to post them. Looks like a great place to ride.

Whatever your thoughts on the paranormal the creeped out feeling Cliffsta had was probably not the result of a bad breakfast burrito.

I'm a lifelong history buff (as if my screen name was not a dead giveaway) with a particular interest in the Civil War. Been to Gettysburg, Sharpsburg (thats Antietam for our northern members) and so on. Anyplace that has witnessed death on a wholesale scale has a strange vibe to it.

The worst place I've ever visited was Andersonville, GA, site of the infamous Confederate POW camp. Only a small section of the original stockade walls have been recreated, but the outline of those original walls is clearly marked. Had to force myself to step over this outline and onto ground that saw incredible suffering. Talk about a chill running down your spine.....

I would invite anyone firmly rooted in the "modern" world to spend a night camped on that hallowed ground. I'm not so sure I believe in ghosts, but I'd take a pass on that one.....
