Exhausts

why pay $323 for that when the header is the real culprit or at least most of the problem on the 250? It's the header that drains most of the power from the bike to begin with. Someone earlier said the header is perfect- far from it my friend. If you're gonna plunk that type of dough down on a poser slip-on, might as well add another $100 or so and get some real power and not just noise. Be it Muzzy or BigGun, it's gonna make tons more power than just a cheap slip-on. If you DO insist on going with the slip-on, I'd recommend buying the $140 FSW header pipe as I've heard it is the cream of the crop if you're buying your exhaust in pieces. Now you all know what I recommend and why. My question is why install a slip-on just for noise as it's not gonna net you any noticeable power, at least not like a full system. Just my take.....

b) Happy with the power but want a nicer looking pipe.
c) Happy with the power but want a bit more noise.
d) Like doing your own thing.
e) Don't like either the Muzzy or the Big Gun.
How's that for starters?
Live and let live.
Life is like running with scissors.
It's all fun until somebody loses an eye.
Cheers

RE: Exhausts
hehe, happy with the power? what are you use to a Z50? this is just me, but 18 horsies just ain't enough for me to have any fun. now where i'm at now is pretty good but a 300 kit will be great next spring. trust me, you will want the extra power. besides, the stock header is heavier than any big gun or muzzy header. i know the oem muffler is heavy but noise ain't gonna make it go faster. again, just my take...........like you said, live and let live. go ahead and live with 18 horse and noise, it's your money.

RE: Exhausts
mmmmm
It's about now I'm caught between responding to the amusing comment from EMS_0525 or to the purile small minded comment from IOWAGUY. mmmm What to do next?
At this point I wish I had the composure of Brian or deej or any of the other "gentleman" who frequent this forum.
They avoid confrontation and use this forum to exchange ideas and, dare I say it, be entertained.
Their comments are inciteful, funny, educational, helpful and, to me anyway, very useful.
I wish I could be like that. But I can't so bear with me boys and girls.
And this is where I digress.
IOWAGUY is not any of the above.
I find his input to be unimportant and some what annoying.
His bias so obvious as to be embarrassing.
He talks about power like he could even spell it.
errrrrrr If power was the main aim we would all be on the latest mega euro thumper.
Please don't confuse Brian's constant tinkering with his pride and joy with an absolute quest for power.
I suspect, and correct me if I'm wrong Brian, but it's more about enjoying the benefits of owning a bike with potential.
Enjoying the experience of modifying.
And, thank you, sharing his experience with us.
You see IOWAGUY, it's about the journey,
If you don't get that then, in my humble opinion, you have no place on a bike.
Not even a Z50. (I have had some of my best experiences on an XR75).
(And when your 10, that's POWER)
There is an upside.
Given your heart is not really in it, it won't be too long before you move away from bikes altogether.
Move onto something else.
Something like, mmmmm let me think mmmmm, (trying very hard not to offend anyone)
mmmmmm IDEA.
Lets run a pole. What IOWAGUY will do after bikes. Too controversial? We will see.
Anyway, I feel better now.
Note to self, don't go on line after a hard day and 6 beers.
Cheers
Oh, and before you get all agro with me IOWAGUY, don't bite off more than you can chew.

RE: Exhausts
I forgive you Neil. Alcohol has very adverse effects on the human body. If you really want to know though I've been riding since the age of 3 which includes lots of mx motos and lots of different street bikes. I once got into jet skiing for 5 years but kids and an intoxicated boater who turned in front of me and left me with a near sinking Kawasaki JS750SX helped me get out of the sport. Oh the irony between that intoxicated boat driver and you lastnight eh? Anyways he was found at fault by the ranger, bought my ski and everything was hunky. Like I said, I forgive you for your comments however you want to classify them. I don't, simply cuz I could care what you think, just like you should care what I think. Don't let people rattle you so much as it's just not worth it. Debate- fine. But if you can't keep your cool then you probably shouldn't debate. It's all about opinions and stating facts.
You can justify the word power any way you like, and "potential" would describe it of course. But face it, nobrakes, of which I agree is very insightful and valuable to this forum but who I also butt heads with sometimes which is perfectly fine, bored his bike twice and added a Muzzy exhaust for more POWER. You can say whatever you want, but usually when people bore and pipe bikes, it's because they want more power. It's an expensive "journey" to spend $400-500 on an exhaust if you don't want any power or "potential" or to take a "journey" as you put it. And I too have modified my bike and several other bikes in my past so I do know about waiting on parts or a tool to make it work or fit. I guess you could call that part of your journey right?
My original post was meant to inform you of your misinformation regarding the factory header pipe. It is not a good thing and seriously chokes the bike. It is tiny in diameter and needs replaced especially when fitting an already limited advantage slip-on. Let's face it, slip-ons are for people who want better sound, some weight loss, to spend less money and nicer looks than factory. The slip-on you talk about will do all of that but pairing it up with the still oem header will gain you nothing and I just wanted you to realize that. If you don't believe me do a google search on KLX factory header too small or something of that sort. The KLX 300, otoh, muffler makes good power once you remove the buttplug, but the header is still tiny and warrants replacement if you want a "journey" or "potential". Educate yourself by reading before you come on here and accept advice from people like me even if you have prejudice against me. I know what I'm talking about whether you believe it or not. I've read every inch of forum talk on the 'net regarding the KLX 250/300. I suggest you do the same and learn about headers and mufflers.
Again, I forgive you and will not give you the satisfaction of some steaming mad flaming response because you typed something when you were intoxicated that deep down you know was wrong. It's okay. I see it every day. You have fun with your slip-on and I hope it works out for you. And remember that opinions are like ********, everyone has one and you just gotta accept that. You can debate until the cows come home like I do but you will never change anyone unless that person is open minded and actually is undereducated about whatever it is you're debating.
