RE: exhaust info
I think that sustained/Frequent high heat(usually with high RPM) is what kills fiberglass and fiberglas derivatives. I would guess that MX style riding would cook the ol' stuffing pretty well. I pasted the URL to a site that offers what it claims to be superior packing material that has no fiberglass or any of its biproducts (couldn't ge the 'link' function to respond for some reason). Supposedly, this stuff lasts a lot longer. I think that's the route I would take if I decided to get a normal muffler. Right now I'm kind of in perched on the fence though. It seems that the best looking, best fitting mufflers all require repacking...however, I like the thought of buying a Staintune system, which never requires re-pack. For the riding I do, I probably woudn't have to repack very ofter though. As far as looks go, I REALLY like the new slip-on from 2 Brothers! If I went with that pipe, I would combine it with a large bore after market header designed to accept slip-ons. There are quite few of those in my neck of the woods.

Tremor38, that is true, there is a maintenance aspect to this (and all such mufflers..) its just that big gun is set up to more easily enable repacking.
That’s why when Badbear stated that his packing looks so good at 1800 miles, I started thinking perhaps the packing life (and perhaps the muffler life) is in part, based on how the bike is ridden.
If you follow that path for a moment, the next logical question is, is there a type of riding that creates a 'most favorable' output pattern that increases the life of the packing/muffler???
That’s why I'm curious to see how Badbear rides, more back roads (fairly constant partial throttle), highways (constant full or almost full throttle) or more dirt (on again, off again high-low RPM pattern)...

RE: exhaust info
the muzzy is noticeably longer, the endcap is ludicrous- it's gay imo. mid '90's sportbikes all had one of these end spouts on it if they had an aftermarket exhaust. the fmf pipe is definitely huge and imo, looks extremely out of place or something. kind of like it wasn't made for the bike, but it will fit so we'll sell it. the BG obviously is the best looking and best fitting. it's tucked up and away and is not too long. not to mention it's premium Race Tools pillow packing lasts longer than others packing.

Is it strictly my imagination or are you pretty much in favor of the Big Gun?
It's kind of hard to tell from your commentary!

IMO's are just that, let's not get into a pipe dissing game again.

RE: exhaust info
So if im hearing you correctly, if I say "my pipe is bigger then your pipe" thats a bad thing??
(stirring stirring stirring... LOL...)
They all allow free flow of exhaust, I'm for any pipe that doesn't make our bike sound like a lawn mower and limit power....

RE: exhaust info
My re-jetted/ de-smogged/ snorkeled/ Muzzy seems to get better mileage then my stock pipe. How's your guys big gun doing???
I am up to 75 mpg in town. It runs perfect too. I did use the shimmed stock needle. I have not found a need for the other needle
yet. I did calibrate my Vapor so it really close on the odo/speedo.
