Default exhaust info

Following the exhaust wars, it seems like i read that someone rode with a couple of guys that had a muzzy and the other a big gun. It seems to me that in the pictures i see that are sent in the muzzy and hmf stick out almost to the end of the finder but the evox is tucked in closer like the stock muffler. If someone knows is that true or false?

Yes the Big Gun Evo X fits very nice . It is no to long and fills the area where the stock pipe was very well. I just took the end off mine today to inspect the Vortex Insert and packing and with 1200 miles it shows no where and is good to go.

Bad bear, how much off road / low RPM riding to you do vs Highway riding.. I'm just wondering if the "blowouts" we saw in that one site were caused, in part at least, by continually high RPM highway riding, something that this pipe may not have really been designed for.. Specfically I'm wondering if the continously high backpressure take a toll, vs more of a dirt ride/ high rpm, low rpm, high rpm, low rpm which would give it time to recover.... Just an idea I had when I read how little degredation your packing appears to have to date...

ALSO, are you running with a VORTEX insert? or just the race core. I'm thinking that the VORTEX insert exasperates the backpressure situation...

Thoughts??

Go back and read the replacement interval recommended by BG and tell all about how the packing is "good stuff right out of the gate." [sm=bs.gif]

ORIGINAL: Iowaguy

the EvoX pipe has nothing in common with the earlier BG pipes. they are built different re: where the can connects to the midpipe. Like I said in another post, the can connects to the mid exactly how that nice Ti Pro-Circuit pipe in the new Dirt Rider does. There has never been any mention on this site of any BG EvoX exhaust system problems other than vibrating screws which do nothing but hold the end cap on, and they were replaced by BG at no expense in 1 day shipping. Yes, it is true about the fitment of the BG- it is nice and tucked up high and does not stick way out. The Muzzy otoh does hang low and protrudes nearly past the taillight, not to mention the end spout looks like it was ripped off a Ninja sportbike exhaust- out of place imo. Also, the reason the packing lasts is because it's good stuff right out of the gate.

Tremor38, that is true, there is a maintenance aspect to this (and all such mufflers..) its just that big gun is set up to more easily enable repacking.

That’s why when Badbear stated that his packing looks so good at 1800 miles, I started thinking perhaps the packing life (and perhaps the muffler life) is in part, based on how the bike is ridden.

If you follow that path for a moment, the next logical question is, is there a type of riding that creates a 'most favorable' output pattern that increases the life of the packing/muffler???

That’s why I'm curious to see how Badbear rides, more back roads (fairly constant partial throttle), highways (constant full or almost full throttle) or more dirt (on again, off again high-low RPM pattern)...

This is from a lower angle and more to the side than your shot, EMS, but it's the closest I could find with the stock fender installed. Even so, if you take the angle of the camera into account, and note where the end of the pipes come in relation to the fender, there doesn't appear to be much difference in their lengths, if any.

the muzzy looks to be about 2 inches longer... while the length is slightly cosmetically "unflattering" on the muzzy, its that endpiece that looks like a musical instrument (a trombone?) that really turns me off.

Here's the HMF on the bike.

After looking at the picture, I have to do something about the look of the back of the bike!
