I did have fun UNTIL that happened. It was a great ride until that, so I can't be too upset. I think if I had tried to rock the back tire left and right some more, I probably could have got it out eventually, but I was running out of steam and daylight. The beauty of the national forest being so close to town, I called my uncle and he was there in not 10 minutes. Luckily this was right accross a paved road.

My dad had a friend that nearly lost a bike in quicksand once

Imma need a pic of that, aren't those things like 30 lbs? If someone makes a small one that will fit in a riding pack, that'd be pretty cool.

Is this what you are referring to?

Nuthin that big NB....my come along weighs about a pound .... it is technically one of those ratcheting heavy duty tie down straps you can get from Home Depot.

2" wide nylon strap with ratcheting mechanism.....get the yellow one....it can reach out about 30' to a tree and is rated for a lot of pull, more than the bike weighs by a long shot.....it has saved my azzz riding alone several times.

Sometimes ya gotta ratchet till you fill up the spool.....reset and ratchet again...ya know what I'm saying? Not way fun...but sure does beat hiking in the swamp.

Cliffsta, that's how you do it. We all get stuck every now and then. When in doubt pin it. If the mud puddle is on jeep trail I go around the edges. I learned my lesson years ago when I sunk a 84 XR500 up to the handle bars in one of those jeep holes here in Washington. Boy was that some work getting it out and running again.....

If you have to ride by yourself it's always a good idea to let someone know your route and approximate return time. Good on you for having a cell phone and calling your uncle. Nice pictures, that was some sloppy stuff!
