This bike makes more noises than the dry clutch on my Duc! BTW, don't screw around with that gas cap, if you make those springs tight the cap will not vent and bad, very bad things will happen to your fuel tank...

 

You can all rest easier!! It was the clutch cable as deej described. No just have to figure a better way to insulate it. I was thinking about heat shrink tubing....or the smallest pipe insulation.. Not sure I'll have to do some heat testing from the coolant lines.

 

I picked up a vibration when I installed the utah skid plate. It's hard mounted and I wonder if it doesn't get a harmonic vibration? Any thoughts?

 

I think I'll try electrical heat shrink tubing on the guide that the clutch cable goes through. I found asmall hole in the clutch line that goes through made by constant rubbing against the guide.

This will be easier than trying to tape the cable where it rubs, plus it might last longer.

 

Remember what I said the mechanic told me a couple of weeks ago? He said that when you add the skid plate it amplifies noises up and things will sound different. In the original post at the top you described a noise at 6-7 K well I had my chain tensioner replaced and its making the same noise still. And you're right on when you say backing off the gas and it slowly goes away. I've made peace with the fact that the motor just makes noises that we may or may not like or even understand, and in fact may actually be "normal" Its all good.

 

Actually if I remember right, (I'm too lazy to walk down the sidewalk here at work), the small bracket that the clutch cable goes through comes off and can be slid down and then you can tape it and slide up the bracket back into position.

Nice catch. I have had the same problem around 6K rpms with the vibration/buzzing noise. I cuta 6" length of 3/8" plastic electrical conduit(the kind you would use ontrailer wiring with ridges and cut down the side), and placed it around the clutch cable where it feeds by the coolant hose keeper on the front of the motor. Problem solved. I rode this morning and the noise was gone. I could actually hear the motor instead of that annoying buzzing sound. So for me, it appears that the noise was from the cable virating against the hose keeper and not the engine.
