Hey Nick, I'm not sure what that DURA blend you have is made for, but don't use regular motor oil (or bar and chain oil, lol ), make sure it's 4 stroke motorcycle oil. 10w-40 or 10w-30 per that chart in the owners manual. (5w is not listed). Your bike oil runs in your tranny too, so it has to be compatible with the wet clutch transmission. Cliffsta is right opinions will vary. I run valvoline 10w-40, and use a Fram CH6015 filter, both of which can be bought at my local Advance Auto Parts store. The Fram filter can be had at Walmart too. Dan

The wet clutch thing is confussing. I guess oils with friction modifiers or any type of oil addatives that help decrease friction are questionable.

The guy I bought my bike from "forgot' the owners manual and tools butsaid he would send them. That was several months ago.

I've been hunting for a 2006 klx manual and tool set on Ebay but they aren't very plentiful.

Here is Amsoils quick explaination (mostly info with a little sales pitch) about Synthetics.
I liked this one because it was less than 10 pages long

FYI. I use Valvoline 10W-40 4Stroke MC Oil.

+1 on Opinions vary.

Hope it proves informative.

http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Oils1.html I thought this was interesting. Towards the bottom of the page he talks about picking a oil for motorcycle use.

I want one of these:

"My buddy has 283,000 miles on his Yamazuki 867 Nintruder, and he's never used anything but 35¢ per quart grocery store oil changed every 48,000 miles."

Well you can't say that guy doesn't know something about oil.

From what he says it sounds like Rotella is the best choice followed by Mobil 1. Rotella it is then. Easy to get and not too expensive.

I'm currently running Rotella... and we usually run Mobil1. The key thing is to make sure it doesn't have all the emissions and cleaners and stuff, read the back of it. The junk they put in regular car motor oil will make your clutch slip. That's why you need to run industrial / heavy truck oil, such as the Rotella T or the Mobil1 Diesel.
