Grew up with the families(dads) '63 police special FLH - Kick start only, suicide clutch, tank mounted gear shifter, left hand ignition retard/advance.. Operating/riding one of those has got to be a rare skillset now days. It ain't easy.

I would rerun the gas mileage experiment. Start with a full talk and go about 100 miles.
I have not been able to go 100 miles since rejetting, even ith the IMS tank that I have. I have made it as far as 84miles once. Last fill-up was out of gas at 66 miles (2.016 gallons, according to the pump). In the process of doing exactly what you suggest now but going to hit the pump at 60 miles. I'm hoping the 66 mile event was an anomaly.

No one showed up this year, but usually there is a hand shifter class at the Ashland Vintage Half-mile during Vintage Days. Pretty wild seeing them coming off the line shifting away. A couple of them aren't screwing around either, they're racing. Last year one of them ran in the open class hard tail and either won or came in second against hard tail Triumphs and Yamahas (yeah, Yamaha never did hardtails, but it's allowed).
