DS'ing a KLX300
I've got a little lead on a 300 that has been made street legal and currently has a plate here in Iowa. I think it's a 2003 and is $2500. Not sure on condition, but just wanted to know what anyone thought. I know it doesn't have E-start, but what other things wouldn't be on it that I may be use to with the KLX250 and DRZ? Is there a speedometer, odometer, etc? Is there anything to tell mileage? thx

Im guessing it has pretty much the same thing our bike has, maybe not a tach. Id go for it 2500! Isnt the ignition timing a little different too? Wont have a rack, no biggie... sounds good.... Hows the drz going?

From the factory it would only have an odometer on it. To be converted to a DS it would have to have at least the speedo, most likely one of the trail tech units. No E-start but I don't think it would be all that difficult to kick over as its more or less the big brother to the KLX and if jetted properly it should fire up in a couple kicks.

just got an offer on the 2005 WR450 with the baja dual sport kit on it. it's in Iowa ironically. anyone rode a 2005 WR450? it's got 300 miles and a Michigan plate but says it can be transferred to Iowa. I thought this couldn't happen? any thoughts? this is tempting. I like the newer aluminum WR's, but this one is like new and is decked out. where's my valium?[&o]

The diffrence between the steel frame and the alum. aren't that big of a deal the 03 didn't handle that well compared to the 05 and up, This bike does make alot more power than a 400 drz. Valve maint. is the only real downside to d/s one of these but is an hour job so it's pretty staight forward. If you buy this I'll give you $2500 in a few months.lol

RE: DS'ing a KLX300
nah, I thought about it, but riding a WR on the road would be worse than a DRZ as far as rpms at speed. I hate when I make things harder than they really are. I've got 35 watchers now on my bike. I am assuming one of them wants it, but with ebay you never know. If it sells, I think realistically, the only DS bike worth looking at is the KLX I sold last April. I just don't know about the 300, having a plate makes me weery. Iowa, according to a lot of people, are revoking past titles to dirtbikes.
