Your right Dean about me running the Vapor however my comment about getting to 140kph indicated was before the Vapor so in reality it was probably more like 130 or high 120's. As Glen is still running stock instruments I didn't bother explaining all that in my 1st post. The gearing on your D-Tracker is 14 - 39 isn't it? The back wheel I got off the D-Tracker had a 39, I imagine thats to compensate for the 17" rims. What speed to revs do you get Dean? The KLX does 1000 RPM for every 10kph with the stock gearing.

Drilling out the stock exhaust doesn't change thesound levelmuch at all, but does offer some improvements in exhaust flow.

If you're in AU, though, it may not be necessary: If you have a 3/4" inch exhaust opening then I don't belive you have the baffle that needs drilling. If your exhuast opening is 1/2", then you do have the baffle.

Thanks again for all your help.

I pulled the seat off today and saw the air box top. So I decided to take it off and ride up to the end of the street. Seems to have given the bike a deeper note and it seemed to accelerate a little better.

Would need to take it a little further to be sure.

My question is do I have to rejet it just for taking the top off the air box?

Any signs to look for that it is running to lean?

I'm happy to whack the top back on until I get some needles if i have to.

But I am guided by your combined wisdom hehe

cheers

Glen

I looked for a baffle with a torch but couldnt see any within drilling distance so I srcapped that idea.

Hey Glen,

yeah I wouldn't bother with drilling the exhaust ours is different to the US ones. I wouldn't run with the lid off unless you rejet, the bike is a bit lean anyway and removing the airbox lid makes it leaner. If your gunna rejet etc I'd get the bits and pieces and do it all at once. I'd suggest you get the dynojet kit (available from serco in qld if you can't get it over there) http://www.serco.com.au/contact.htm they are around $100 - $110

Cheers

Garry

A likely dumb question but will ask nontheless,

is the "1/2 inch hole in 1st baffle" you speak oflocated at the spark arrestor or head-pipe end of the muffler?

Yes, just put the drill bit into the muffler end and drill away. Its thin metal so it doesnt take much force. I did mine the same way. It doesnt really get any louder, but it sure lets more exhaust out and thats the goal.

Drilling the baffle with a 1/2" drill does allow it to flow a bit easier, but you have to keep in mind that the exhaust still has to come out the 1/2" hole in the end.

To put things into perspective, the stock exhaust 1/2" diameter outlet provides an opening of about 0.2 sq. in., whereas an aftermarket exhaust (in this case the Big Gun Evo X), has an almost 2" opening, that provides an opening of about 2.75 sq. in. ... or an increase of 1375%. (Muzzy and the other aftermarket exhausts, including slip-ons, will provide similar increases.)

I agree, my sons Honda CRF50 has a bigger exhaust outlet than the stock KLX.

Drilling the baffle to me is just something you can do till yousave a few $$ to order an aftermarket setup.
