Drill new handlebars to install?

Brand doesn't matter. Drill a hole in an alloy bar and you expect that result. Ouch!

As others said file the tab off, don't drill the bars

After you get your controls set to the position you like, run a bead of black silicone around the outside. you can hardly tell it's there and it keeps them in position. Do not overtighten screws with shim stock in between to keep tight. You will stress the plastic.
Silicone looks good and works perfect.
