Default Drain plug hole is stripped on KLX

Ive been having a small leak. A drop or two a night since my last Oil change at 18,000 miles. Changed oil again on Sunday at 19,000 and the leak is baad. Pulled the plug out again today and noticed metal in the threads. Through some plumbing tape on it and no luck. Leak is still there.

Any suggestions for the best resolution? Replacing the whole crankcase sounds expensive.

Are you using a new washer?
Sometimes it can be tapped to the next larger size. Or...
Acme or Helicoil or Keensert.

Prior to Sunday I had no washer. Sunday, I threw a new one in and the leak got worse. I took the washer out yesterday and the leak hasn't improved.

Is the Helicoil a 1 and done process? And can I use the same drain plug? Or does helicoil make the diameter larger?

Thanks y'all

You can check with a dealer or independent shop. Many have the stuff to do the job, lay the bike on its side, drill or tap to appropriate size, helicoil and done. Grease on the drill and on the tap, slow going and no chips in the engine. I believe it retains the same thread too.

Just called the local shop. $200 to tap the drain hole. Gahh damn son.

Or you can do it yourself, drill & tap to new size?

Seriously though, tapping anything scares me. Ive never done it and the consequence sounds expensive.

.... But doing it correctly myself is the way to go
