Double Check Your Valves!

Double Check Your Valves!
I just finished (partial) reassembly of the KLX after adjusting the valves. I followed the chart in the service manual and used the Hot Cams shim kit. Well after reassembly I checked the clearance again and one valve went from too tight to too loose by following the chart. At the bottom of the same page it actually states to double check them and readjust as necessary, and I had to put in 1 step thicker valve than the chart called for to put it smack in the middle of the specs.
Just thought I'd share that info.
I said partial reassembly because I was just going to wing it w/out a torque wrench but after snugging down some of the bolts I'm not comfortable with it and have to pick up an in-lb wrench tomorrow.

RE: Double Check Your Valves!
Turning the crank is a good idea, specially if you used a dab of grease like the manual says to hold the shim in place during reassembly (The cam will squish the grease out from under the shim, which would otherwise throw off your measurement when rechecking the clearance).
For some reason, I couldn't follow the example in that shim chart- the chart shows one thing and the text shows something else. I'll look at it again tomorrow morning after I've had a coffee ... that usually works.
