Don't like your KLX without a snorkle or lid?

My base assumption is that unless the KDX snorkel has less overall surface area than the mouth of the carb, removing the airbox lid will not help and likely hurt performance as it will destroy resonance. In effect the rigid sides of hte airbox act as a spring forcing more air into the carb.

Snorkel(s) or none, if the area around the air box restricts airflow you're losing potential hp.

Wow, you gotta love the snorkel guys, they just won't quit... Some probably took off the lid on a stock bike, realized it won't run, put the lid back on and surmised that it has to have a lid and snorkel to function properly - this also includes those using the "resonance" argument. Or they don't like that horrible sucking growl of the lousy stock cam timings after they exhaust and jet it. Or they think a snorkel will save the engine in a situation that would have ruined it otherwise -You know the KDX snorkel empties onto the top of the filter!
All the while we are finding out that just pulling the lid may not allow enough air flow for a modded STOCK BORE !!!!
You gotta love em though, they're a part of us.

This just underscores the need for actual testing. Overall, I find this to be a pretty nice forum. Just try and take a breath and count to 10 when you hit the caps lock button.
