If the TPS on the KLX works anything like Kawi's other TPS equipped carbed bikes, it uses a 3d map to deterimine ignition timing for better "driveability".
If it operates the same as the system on my 6R uplugging defaults the "ecu" (ignitor) to a WOT map. I actually unplugged mine (on my 6) after hearing from guy who was talking to the Candian Kawasaki Superbike team back in the day that the default WOT map was actually more aggresive than what the TPS would advance timing (unless you messed around with the TPS, but its easier to just unplug it). While i've never had the bike on a dyno it does feel like it has more power w/o the TPS plugged in.
*edit* A guy named Sean Stasiak did some work a number of years ago with a Kawi ZRX1100 and had some pretty nice charts and graphs showing this. I'll see if i can't dig them up.

I have a 07 KLX, and I can tell you that the TPS signal is not used by the CDI, even though it is connected to it. It does not alter the ignition timing at all, at least for the north american 07. I know this from having put the CDI on a test bench exactly for this purpose.

This is just my best guess...

Yesterday from Bill Blue:
Hello Joe,
The electronic plug in is a Throttle Positioning Sensor that don't work on our bikes. We have used a timing light on the bike & rotated the TPS there is no difference in the timing. Our local dealer tells me the carb came off of a bike that had a TPS that worked. I ni tie the plugin to the frame out of the way.
The TM33/34 dont have a TPS.
Thanks
Bill
