Found a very small MX track here and took the KLX out on it yesterday. I also crashed once but not on the first lap! I got too high on a berm and slid over it, got some new scratches on the left side to balance out the ones on the right. :-) I have never ridden on a MX course before so I need to learn and get some of the basic skills down for it. I thought I was getting some air on the jumps but had the wife taking pictures and sure as snot I was only getting the suspension extended. Boy, I have a lot to learn!

Be glad you have 40 acres! The track I was on barely covered 1.5 acres so was pretty tight. I never left 2nd gear.

ohh great rub in the fact that i fell on the first lap. glad i dint tell the whole story about falling 2 times on the first lap. lol dohhhh.

first was a soft fall over in a turn cause the guy in front of me was to slow.
the second was the big one bike and my head to most of the impact thoug so im ok lol

i got what i would call decent air. if i go again i will try to clear the table top to see if landing on the down slop is easier on the bike.

I wouldn't go jumping it too high, the impact can break the frame

I had the day off on Wednesday, and it was nice out, so I went riding up at the Dayton Dirt Riders trails again. After riding there for hours, I got the itch to try the MX track again at the Dayton Motorcycle Club, which is right next door. Here is a pic of the track, there is a bit more to the left and right, but this pic shows the bulk of it.

I decided to try to be a little more aggressive on some of the jumps this time. On the biggest one I tried, I got more air than I thought I would, and it bottomed louldly, and painfully. I said "Ouch" upon impact, it hurt my wrists and forearms. I'm ok, it just was not a pleasant landing. Hopefully it didn't look bad, because a dozen or so DMC members were sitting on the porch of the clubhouse watching and commenting on whoever was out there riding as they awaiting the weekly Wednesday meeting. There were only two people out there riding, and I was one of them, lol. I sure didn't want to be in their spotlight, but my need for fun outweighed that. After I did my laps I rode straight back to the Dayton Dirt Riders area to pick up my backpack and go home, didn't feel like hearing the DMC guys critique my performance, lol.

Mav might be right, I felt guilty on my last jump, it bottomed so hard. I even went up 6 clicks on the suspension front and rear before the ride. The '09 has a shorter suspension the the older KLXs, that hurts on an MX track. I feel like the frame really might break if I keep taking it up to the MX track and launch it off the jumps. It can do little jumps ok, bigger jumps, not so much.Derfineitly more at home in the woods.

I wonder where you were standing when you took that pic.

I am out-standing in my field, hah ha ha.

Yeah, a track bike would be cool, don't need anything fancy. Sometimes I get the urge to screw around on the MX track, and I don't want to hurt my poor little KLX, it's almost like a pet to me, lol.
