Default Do I Need an Extended Clutch Cable

Hey everyone,

I own a 2006 klx250s with Renthal handle bars. Does anyone know if I need an extended clutch cable to fit with these handlebars? If so which aftermarket cable should I purchase?

Thanks,
Canehdian

It really depends on how much taller you go with the bars. The 2006 has room for some extra bar height. Re-routing the cable may help. A pre-08 KLR650 clutch cable will work in a pinch offering something like 2 to 3 inches extra over the 2006 KLX250 cable. Otherwise, I think you'll be wanting to order a custom cable from Motion Pro.

Thanks for the tips.

The bars were already installed by the previous owner. Theres a picture of my bike attached in my first post. Im not sure if you could tell how high the bars are though.

Thanks

It looks like you may have Rox risers or something similar? And Renthal bars?

So, if these parts are installed already, why are you asking the question? Is the current cable too tight? Do you need to replace it?

We've installed 1" (might be 30mm) risers and I *THINK* we have Renthal bars as well. The stock cables fit just fine.

My clutch cable is fraying. I shouldve that mentioned earlier.

I guess ill get the stock cable and reroute it if it does happen to be a bit too short.

Thanks

I just installed a clutch cable from an 09 KLR... Unless the pre 08 s have a metal guard to protect it from the header, this one works well.

I installed a set of renthals, the cr high bend.
They didn't require a longer clutch cable.

Although installing my hand guards did, so I ordered a long cable.

Hey guys! So my clutch cable finally arrived but I am having fitting issues.

It seems that the cable itself is long enough, but there is not enough slack in the line for the cable to connect to both the clutch lever and the gear box. I have the adjustment screw on the clutch lever screwed all the way in, and the adjustment screw on the clutch cable house screwed all the way in as well.

It looks like I could connect it to the gear box by manually pulling in the clutch, and then attaching it, however it would only leave me with about about 1 mm of slack.

Does it sound like I'm missing something here or is the cable to short?

If when installed there is only 1mm of slack would it be safe to use? I figure the cable will only stretch in time.

Thanks,
Canehdian
