Default dj2206 needle settings

Installed the dj2206 jetkit today, drilled the slide, 128 main, needle on #3

My question is, the instructions were a little vague when it comes to the spacer. On step 3 or4 it tells you to use the stock spacer and eclip on notch #4 but on the "after market exhaust " stage 2, it says put the clip on #3.... do I still install the spacer before the clip?

I did but just wondering if I was supposed to?

The bike seems to run okay but maybe lost some torque?

I've got an fmf q4 and open airbox as the other mods.

Thanks for your help in advanced,
Paul

Those washer spacers go on top.of the needle to help hold it tight.

I've read a few articles and I assumed the washers go between the float and e-clip as a half step adjustment?

So with the brass washer under the clip on groove #3, I'm actually running between notch 3 and 4.

So you're saying it goes on top of the clip and under the white plastic cap that guides the spring?

So the eclip, washer on top of eclip off the needle is facing down, then white plastic spring retainer correct?

Sorry but this is the first time I've ever worked on a bike, carb, or motor.

Now that you mention it, I think some may run it under the clip to give a half space for extra-fine tuning. IIRC, my instructions called for 2 or 3 washers above the clip to help hold it tight against the white plastic holder on top - this keeps the needle from bobbing up and down. Did you put any there on top?

In my experience, DJ's instructions were on the rich side for my bike (HMF slipon, airbox lid off) as a 250 with 128 main and clip on 3rd down from top, a couple years ago before the 351 kit. Moved to 124 main and 2nd down and it was better, but still rich and I think the 120 DJ main would have been better. My elevation is around 3000 ft and ride up from here. If you've lost some torque, you may be on the rich side. Look for black soot on the exhaust as a tell tale sign, and maybe pull a plug. Also, when I put the airbox lid on, it just bogged like crazy with the 128 main & clip 3rd down and wouldn't rev past around 7500 or so. Rich, rich, rich.

Yeah it definitely smelled rich, I'm at sea level, I'm expecting the kdx snorkel and megabomb this week, so I may switch to the dj124 main while I have it open, this time I'm going to put the washers on top, I read the instructions to the 2125 kit and that's what it shows so I think I have it backwards currently.

Thanks again for your help IDRIDR!

Just winterized the sf today... I'm running DJ kit, K&N, FMF Q4, no snorkel, and a ground stock header (doubt it helps lol).

Exhaust was looking a little sooty, but when I pulled the plug it was black... I had the stock plug on stock settings to compare it too (wow this thing was lean from the factory). Whats interesting is I did a lot of reading before I jetted and against DJ's instructions I went with a 124 main, 3rd clip and 2.5 turns out...

I'll probly go to 2 turns out and 2nd clip before next summer.

I believe that because I'm at sea level I will stay with the 3rd clip but I am going to go to the dj124 main when I open my carb in the next few days to change the placement of the washer (I feel like an idiot for having it in the wrong spot). I also received my KDX snorkel today and my unmelted airbox should be here today as well.

Unfortunately my megabomb won't be here till Friday though... would be nice to have all the pieces before breaking into it again, I may just wait for them to all be here.

Thanks again for everyone's help on the jetting issues!

Paul

So I think I've finally got it dialed in pretty well.

I've settled on the DJ128 main, 2nd notch from top, no snorkle(even though I bought the kdx200 hi flow), fuel screw 2.5 turns from seated, with the new megabomb header/FMF Q4 exhaust...

Pulls hard through the entire RPM range, snappy throttle response, it does "cough" around 8,000rpm but only maybe 5% of the time(full throttle), so 95% of the time its smooth as butter through the whole range... no surging or anything.

I tried with the KDX snorkel but it hickup'd to often around 7-8k rpm and sometimes it would surge when cruising, removing it has taken practically all of those symptoms.

I think I could run the 124 main on the 3rd notch with the snorkel in, but she really flies the way she is right now though she is a tad bit louder with the snorkel removed.

I'm not sure why she "coughs" around 8,000rpm on the rare occasion, maybe still a tiny tad bit on the rich side, may be able to cure it by removing the whole airbox lid, but I just don't think I can handle the noise!

Those are all the same settings I ended with as well. Going to the 128 MJ gave me the topend I was missing with the 125.
