Did my mods tonight
1st test ride after...
Full Muzzy
N1TC needle, second slot from top
128 main jet
stock pilot
Drilled slide 7/64
About 2.5 turns out on the A/F screw
Drilled air box for crank case vent
Removed smog system
First impression was I loved the sound of the exhaust, simply awesome, it now sounds like a bike! First riding impression was, I was really expecting more, something didn't feel right, almost like it didn't have much more power then stock. To me it felt like the bike was running rich, not enough air. So I made my way home for another test mod, which brings me to...
2nd test ride after...
Removed air box lid
This was/is my problem! After removing the lid the bike really came to life, now this is what I was hoping for! The bike has great bottom end, front wheel comes up no problem in first, throttle response is awesome.
But now I have to pick up a larger snorkel and high flow filter because I don't want to ride with the airbox lid off. My question is, will these 2 mods result in the same effect as having the lid off?
One other question, what exactly does the air/fuel screw adjust, I mean does it adjust low speed, high speed, etc.? And what does turning it in and out do exactly?
Thanks

RE: Did my mods tonight
I was hesitant to run without the air box lid, but the mechanic at the shop, also a racer, told me that he set up the bike to run with out it. And the way this thing is running he's right. Come to the dark side.[sm=vader1.gif]

Mark, try the 125, hiflow snorkel and slot three. Set the main jet first. Run full speed with the jet of your choice, if it surges at high rpm, too lean, move up a jet. If you don't have power above 8500rpm and the throttle feels mushy, you too rich. Once the main is set, you can set the needle. Start in the middle, clip down is richer. Ride at 7000rpm-ish, and if the bike surges, lift the needle, sluggish? drop the needle. The air/fuel is for idle mostly, but will effect the throttle response and deceleration 'pop'. To lean; pops, hesitates and decelerates hard and fast. Too rich; stinky, little sluggish/flat feeling in the bottom and runs awesome when cold.
ok, done babbling.

if you dont want to run w/out the lid, remove the oem snorkel and leave it off. then, cut the oem hole in airbox lid to make it larger and then add a Uni-filter and you are good to go. this way you still have a lid and a little coverage just in case. if you want real power, add the big gun exhaust system. ok, just kidding. they're both good.
