DID THE JETS AND CRANKCASE LAST NIGHT
I did the crankcase mod using 5/8 hose with uni filter. removed smog. installed a 40pilot and 140 main with theN1TC needle on the second clip with the collar. the air fuel screw set at about 2 1/4 turns out. no air box lid.
OK my question is - I had installed a two brothers slip on previously and i have almost completely eliminated the decel popping (99% gone)with the jetting and needle but when i reach 80mph it seems to have very little pull. also a little smoke from exshaust when i was revving it in neutral in the garage this morning. a blue grey color.I did all the mods lastnight from eight to midnite then took it down the road. i bet my neighbors were happy! does this mean i am to rich on the main? or should i turn in my fuel screw? i also purchased a 135 main i wonder if i should install it? my elevation is approx. 1200'. starts right up and idles perfect and seems to pull well until the top end, like i said about 80 it stopped pulling. before the mods i was easily hitting 85 and still strong. i have the 13 45 gear ratio. any suggestions or help? thanks in advance

80mph seems to be about top end for the bike. Sure, it may go faster, but with the knobbies and suspension, it may not handle that well at those speeds, possibly unsafe?
For me, I don't see myself going much past 60-65 mph or even travelling on the interstate.
The 140 on the CV carb is probably a bit rich.

seems to me by putting the lid back on - with or without the snorkel will restict air flow which will in turn give me a richer mixture, not lean. is that not correct?[&:]

put your airbox lid back on, but remove the snorkel so that the hole is just showing. do this first since it's easiest. this will lean it out a bit which may help. if not, do the same but install the 135 main. the 140 is way big for just a slip on. i realize you have no lid, but it's still a large main with just a slip on.
when i did these mods with my KLX w/biggun and uni, I went 128 main with an enlarged airbox snorkel hole w/no snorkel. I kept the 35 pilot, which in reality really isn't a big deal changing it out to 40. it may help it start easier. I'm at 1000' asl, so we should be the same there. I'm no expert, but have done this before and got it pretty spot on the first time only because of other's experiences here to guide me. also, do 2.5 turns on the a/f screw if you do end up removing the carb again. that's what I did as well. oh, btw I had my KLX at an indicated 90 mph after the jets and pipe and before the lower gearing. it will fly but it isn't the most stable bike going that fast, but it will do it.

yeah, you're right, my mistake. I always seem to get those twobackwards.I think you're too rich right now. Maybe you should take the 140 out and put in a 130, that would lean it out. then, you can fine tune with the needle which is easier to get to than the jets. I think 130 would be fine if you put the lid back on and enlarged the hole, otherwise with the lid off I'd shoot for the 135. I know when I was experimenting that when I took off the lid and rode it, it always ran like crap. That's probably because I only had a 128 main. Moving up to a 135 with no lid and having the full exhaust it probably would have even ran better. Sorry about that. Like I said, I'm not expert here.

RE: DID THE JETS AND CRANKCASE LAST NIGHT
The only guys I know of who have reported success with that size of main jet in the CVK are those who are running a full aftermarket exhaust with no inserts. One such person is Jellyfish who was running the full Big Gun system with race core only (no vortex or quiet insert)and air box lid removed. I would suspect that he is still a bit rich at WOT even though he reports a strong pull. Ya gotta have a heckuva lot of flow if you go with a 140. That jetting was orignally intended for the KLX300.Myguess is thatthe 135 would be more in the ballpark...especially if you'rerunning with stock headpipe and slip-on. I'd guess that 130-132 would be spot-on, but it varies a bit from bike to bike.

i dont know. after running it on the road to work and around to my buddies house it seems to be running very well. starts without choke, blip the throttle once or twice and hit start. iwill put in the 135main and see what kind of reaction i get, but i am going to ride it like this for a while it is pulling and running great. first to second gear wheelies. i will keep y'all posted about the difference with the 135.

Try the 135 main. I just switched from a 140 main last night and it seems like the bike is running better now.Pulls good all the way through. Letus knowhow it turnsout for you. I am stillplaying with my fuel screw butI think I am close.
