Diaphram in hot water??

I bought it new in 2004. I've got 17,000 miles on it now. I don't put a lot of miles on it because I use my bikes for commuting.

Definitely had to soak the diaphragm in hot water. I had the new needle and spring from the dynojet kit ready to pop right in but as soon as I loosened the cover the diaphragm popped right out of the groove like it was under pressure. Immediately tried to fit it back in and it was clear it wasn't going. Had to put it in water that was almost boiling for several minutes before it would go back together.
