Oh and I didn't buy this bike to do long trips, I bought it because I could do a long trip, and yet ride the tight trails and all of the gravel roads and ride back and forth to work....Hmmmm it seems to have been the perfect choice IMO.

Just read through this whole thread. Nice. I'd wondered about the details of the side mount liquid carriers (had seen them in the thread of the Van Isle trip).
In BC (don't know about the rest of Canada) metal gas cans were banned quite a few years ago.
At the risk of a ban: Where is your weight at now Deej? You had posted 295 lbs and a goal of 199 lbs but you never updated the progress.

Actually I forgot about the weight disclosure.. I didn't really try losing weight until just a month ago. My cousin and I (see report link) >>>> LINK
decided to give it a go. After our "EPIC" ride in July of last year he was bugging me to go on this diet with him, so we could encourage each other.

For 6 months I resisted, put off and generally dismissed it. However when he sent me a brand new drop shipped digital scale from Amazon, how could I say no? So after a month I have lost some weight, but more than that I've lost inches.

And even more important, I actually started walking on Sunday mornings to start with, I get up at 6am and do a fast walk all the way up to work, and 1/3 of that is a 7% grade. Round trip is 4 miles.

My cousin made a Google spreadsheet that we can both get to, to post weight and add a funny or inspirational comment. Its works well. As of this morning I am at 248.8

My goal is still 199, and even though I am 6-1 I'm pretty sure I can do it. But it's hard (that's what she said!) I'll keep plugging away, and hopefully before June I can get close to my goal weight.

Keep up the great work. I could also stand to lose a few pounds before riding season rolls around again....you already got over the hardest part which is taking that first step and doing something. Rock on....or should I say "Walk on"?

Walking is a good exercise for sure. It's my main form of transportation around town. I've had people at work comment "I've worked here for x years and never even knew you had a car" on those rare occasions when the weather was just too lousy to walk. I've got a few blocks of steep to get home. Took a bit to get used to when I first moved there but now it's "Hill? What hill?".
