Default Dealer does find a part

So I call up a local kawasaki shop to get a 13 tooth front for my klx250sf...and he tells me he doesn't show one, but he put one from a ktm on his bike. I was confused I swore the 250s came with a 13 and I swore the motors were the same.

Can anyone educate me on this?

I thought a 14T has been the standard countershaft sprocket just about forever on the dual sport model. I'm not familiar with the SF gearing, however. On finding a 13T for the KLX, that's not difficult at all. They can be sourced from several companies. I think I've obtained most of my countershaft sprockets for many bikes from JT.

14 is the stock sprocket. I had to have a spacer made for the one I got over 4 years ago from JT Sprocket. I remember that the Honda 650 dual sport one will also fit.

I believe the s and sf motors are the same but the final gearing is different. The stock C/S sprocket on the s model is a 14 tooth. Rocky Mountain ATV has the part number 1021470075 $8.99

The SF's still have the same 14 C/S but the rear is a 39 tooth instead of 45 or whatever it is that comes on the S

so is it better to go larger on the back or smaller in the front?

How are you 250s guys running at higher speeds, what does your bike top out at and at what rpm?

Thanks

bw, I notice your tag line mentions that "mods are coming soon". I'd recommend you do the basic exhaust, intake, and jetting mods first, then you'll have a better feel for what kind of gearing will suit your needs. I kind of think your take on the gearing will be impacted some by how the bike will run with some good, basic mods.

I would do what he said and do the mods first and of you ride your sf mainly on the road you will see that the factory gearing just fine and if you up the rear you will lose some of that top end and nice top speed
