My friend's 09 KLX stalled very suddenly in water just over the footpegs. Riding slow (crawling speed), no water got in the airbox through the top/lid. The bike refused to start back up right away. Let it sit for 3 or 4 minutes and it managed to re-start. No smoke of any color present, but the bike didn't really want to start back up, probably from being flooded from trying the first time. We assumed maybe the water affected the side stand switch or water sucked up the stupid airbox oil collector thing, which had the bottom plug removed, but still hanging there (this seems to be a far stretch from probable, but a thought none the less). Has anyone had anything similar happen, or have any thoughts so this can be prevented from happening again? I'm really stumped on this problem. Mine has never done this. Thanks in advance.

 

Has the T mod been done to the carb vent lines? If they get submerged it will kill it. Could be the kickstand switch.

 

How to do the t mod. Any pics? Searched this forum, zero hits

 

Not familiar with the T mod either. Nothing much has been done to his bike. This is interesting though and would make sense.

 

My bike did the same thing in deeper water, but I made it to dry land before it shut off. However, it restarted right away. Not sure what caused it? This happened when my bike was stock.

I have yet to do the T-mod and have yet to have any problems with deep water crossings.

However I did have to bypass the kickstand switch because of water.

 

Easy to test. Start bike, stick ends of carb vents, they stick down by the shock, in a cup of water see if it stalls. i had to do it on my 06. I try to rule out all possible problems of the motor cutting out... lol.... i disabled clutch switch, kickstand switch, and have T'ed the carb vents.
