Day off in December (Vid & Pics)
I've had the new to me 09 klx250s and been dying to get it in the dirt for about a week. I had last friday off of work so deiced to take it to Rowher Flats OHV. about 90 miles on road round trip and i put down 40 miles off. Rode pretty cautiously as I was alone, don't have any bike protection yet and it was my first time in the dirt with this bike. It was super fun! my first dualsport bike, so much fun rding twisty canyon roads to reach OHV area. I made a little vid and took some pics for you guys

It was a really fun place. My bike was hating the jump in elevation from los angeles (600) to mountains (2100 -3500). Ive only jetted my little 2 stroke moped, but is there a way to make the klx happy for both elevation levels? I think its lean to begin with lots of decel popping. I bought it with a 2 bros pipe but i think thats the only mod. Not sure what jet is inside. Ive read all the horror stories of pulling the carb on the KLX, I dont want to have to do it every time i ride to the OHV. Plus if I have to trailer it there defeats the point in having a dual sport.

I ride anywhere from below sea level (death valley) to above 8000 feet. You just need to get it jetted correctly. Get a Dynajet kit, and go to stage 2. I believe the part number is 2152. It could be 2154...nope, 2152 looks right. I have an 09 KLX, too.

Thanks Blackheart, thats my next purchase for the bike, the jet kit and some protection, skidplate, rotor guards (not sure where to get them?). Im happy to hear the range of elevation your riding with no problems. As for the mirrors I took them off my cafe project. You can find them on ebay just search bar end mirror, i took the bar end insert off and they clamp right on to the bars. i have to raise my elbow up a bit to see but it works for me and matches the stock bars

With the stage 2 jetting you should be ok, another cheap mod would be a sprocket, either a 13 tooth front or a 44 rear, it would still be streetable either way as I went the 13 route but these bike bike respond well to being geared down a tad. A 45 rear would be about the same as a 13 front the reason most of us go with the little one is you don't have to buy a chain unless yours is worn. If you go bigger on the back you might need a longer chain.
