I'm downloading an archive/mirror as we speak, up to 2GB so far. I don't know how big it will end up being in the end, hopefully small enough to fit on a DVD (4.7 GB) so if anyone is interested in providing hosting it could be easily transferred via standard media.

Will let you guys know once the archive file(s) have completed.

I don't know what your doing, if you making a complete archive, text only, pdf, etc.

Nobody asked you to do it, nor did anyone ask me. If you feel like you wasted/are wasting your time then feel free to stop doing whatever it is you are doing.

I don't know how it was supposed to have contacted you in the 8 hour span between when you stated you were downloading the site, to when you posted again. I had already started, finished the archive and gone to bed for the night before you even responded.

Also you said that you are "attempting" to download the site implying that you didn't know exactly how it was going to turn out, i felt that it was more important to ensure the site was archived sucessfully as quickly as possible rather than wait to find out how your attempt turned out.

I have used automated "website grabbers" in the past, and they work really well. Downloads the entire site, with links and content intact. Hopefully, someone here is using that method...

Ended up being a little smaller than estimated -

size on disk of 1.19 GB in 20,631 files.

Keep in mind that is all the links, pictures, indexes, etc all as they were as of yesterday. Pretty much everything except what links were invalid and peoples PM's.

You guys should start your own forum. Considering that this is a corporate owned forum for the purpose of generating income, you'd think it would be a lot better than it is. We're the only people here.

I think that's the irony in your statement. The forum is only as good as its members. I also think that this forum is one of the better ones out there. I read a few related to bikes, garages, Subarus, guns just to name a few. Most of them consist of more whiners than actual contributors to the subject they love. What makes a good forum? How can we make this one better?
