Default D-OH! loose hardware consequence

Just another testament to checking hardware once and awhile. The bolts that hold the rear of the airbox in place cameout at some time and the box decided to take a rest on my exhaust pipe

Hey Charlie, thanks for the heads up, will be checking mine out asap. Hey what tank are you running on your bike? Is that the Clark? What's the capacity and were you able to keep the fan? Just curious and too lazy to search all the hundreds of posts on the subject. I'm actually in the process of making some quick release 2 gal tanks to carry on long rides. I'm also experimenting with some plastic paint and carpet to keep them from rubbing on the framework. I guess I should start taking pictures through the process, but with a disclaimer that I won't be held responsible if you turn into a rolling fireball going down the road. [8D]........

She's the clarke alright. It was aneasy install, stock fans and all. The only mod to the tank that I picked up on here was to elongate the post that the seat goes over and it's butter. I also cut the shrouds down to expose more of the tank from the side to see capacity easier. I dig it. I am kind of a wierd guy at the pump, never know mileage or how much is going into any of my stuff or what the price is. Icompare gas toif someone charged for oxygen, when ya need it, ya need it.I've rung up 90 miles of road andsingle track miles and had a ways before reserve. Believe about 50+ miles of hardtrail ridingwas aboutwhat stock would give me. Oh yeah, I think the tank is advertised as 2.7 but didn't pay attention to see if it'll take 2.7.

I'm mounting a Clarke right now. I'd say it looks like its going to give me about a gallon more range. I run about 1.3 to 1.45 gallons at 100 to 110 miles. The variation is due to how hard I throttle the little guy and whether I stay on asphalt on my way to work (there a nice stretch of former road, former creek bed, former abandoned trash trail).

Nice job with the air box.

Ordered the Clarke tank today.
At the moment I get around 100k's of mostly dirt before reserve.
Almost enough for a good days fun.
Almost but not quite.

Check your battery terminal bolts guys. Found both of mine loose the other day. Good job on the airbox repair.

i've lost so many bolts and screws from not checking, chain guards have fallen off, brake guard in the rear fell off and the neghiboor noticed it when he ran it over with the mower. a coupple of ferring and shroud bolts. Now any time i work on the bike, i just take everything that comes off and put some blue loc-tite on it. havnt lost anything else lately.
Had the same deal with the air box, mine wasnt nearly as bad... that thing looks like it really roasted on there for a bit! didnt smell it burning? lol

Do not put loc tite on the radiator shroud bolts that go into a plastic tank. The brass inserts have a tendency to "break away" in the mold and you will not be able to remove the bolt. Once it happens you get creative in trying to keep the insert from spinning to remove the bolt and often, if possible, you have to use a hack saw blade to cut the bolt off. I actually use a dab of grease or anti seize on the shroud/tank bolts.I do quickly check most of the bolts on the bike before every ride but I almost strictly ride off road and do not put on as near as many miles as those who ride on road. The only bolt I ever lost was a front fender mounting bolt. Still had three out of four holding it on.
