So much for global warming, I woke up to 6" of fresh wet heavy snow. Knocked out power and most all schools closed. It was 1 year and 4 days ago that I brought the KLX home and it was in the 60's and not a hint of snow. Can't say the same for this year. 30's forecast all this week.

Well i was the proud owner of a 2006 klx250.Did all free mods,rejet carbie,staintune muffler & regeared sprockets.But bike still not enough.Under powered,heavy,poor brakes & suspension.So i said cya to the klx & purchased a Honda Crf250x which just won top 250 class shootout.What a difference.Now i see the klx was never gonna be anything more then a 15 year old bike.Slow,heavy and hard to turn.The crf would leave it for dead in any way possible.Like comparing a 50cc moped to a yamaha R1 sports bike.Seriously thats the difference.Not putting crap on the klx.It's very reliable but if you wnat to have more fun in the bush,feel like a better rider by going faster & smoother.Stop spending money on the klx and change to the crf250 or something similar.The klx will never be in the same class.sorry guys.Sad but true!!

Well, I am going for the first dualsport ride of the season today. It's about7-8 miles of road to the national forest then natures playground abounds. I bought this bike for a reason. Oh, sorry that your CRF has to be trucked or trailered. CYA!

Just realized that we need milk, oj and a few other items. So when I get back from my dualsport trip I will probably change and take the KLX up to the grocery store with my daughter on back (she loves it). Just one more reason that I enjoy this bike.

No matter how much you spend...no motocross machine will never be street legal. My KLX is used more as a light weigh adventure bike, rather than a trail bike.
I think he;s just pissed that he really wanted a full time trail bike, and didn't do his reasearch and wasted his money on a KLX.A KLX still blows away all other dual sports under $5000. Only some more expensive KTM's come close to it's trail worthyness.

if nothing elseyou learned a lesson. do your research next time and you won't get burned rook. sorry it didn't work out for you but it's not the bike it's you. good luck with the honda.

Maybe you should be comparing your 'MX' bike with other 'MX' bikes...just an idea. I went to the dealer buy a dual sport, that's what I got and I'm happy with it.
We'll make sure to a wave as we pass you in your in your truck/trailer hauling that non-tagable bike to the next trail head.

not only that, but he bought a honda. ugh. they're like $500 more than their class rival. too bad the guy didn't look at the TE250- street legal AND will kill the slower, less powerfulCRF. Look I'm the first to admit the KLX is no power horse, but one thing it is that not many other bikes are, street legal. yeah, street legal and nice looking. no matter how much more power that honda makes, ain't enough to make it legal to ride on the road at 55 mph. it's actually kind of ironic you come on here bragging about how you pretty much just lost $3000 with all your mods and the extra cost of your bike. at least replace it with something that you can ride anywhere. now you have a part-time motorcycle that has to be hauled anywhere you take it to ride unless you own a park or something. of course i would love a CRF, but I also couldn't take my daughters down to the c-store for gas and candy now would I on one of them unicammers. they are pretty though, but damn, for that price the darn thing should be. oh yeah, the Husqvarna TE 250 comes dot legal and has high end brakes, suspension, wheels, and a more powerful engine for less money. enjoy.........really.

All the comparisons I have read seem to rate the CRF's power easily comparable to the TE250(not the yet to be released model) and the CRF is a lighter bike. The CRF250X has more HP than an XR400 and the suspension is a dream on really rugged trails, it will also lift the front wheel with a twist of the throttle in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears from 2500rpm. We paid $6400 on the road for the KLX250 and $8990 on the road for the CRF250X. A Husky, KTM, or Yamaha equivalent is around $11000 on the road. I agree also that the CRF will require more maintenance but thats the price you pay for that much power from a 250 I suppose.
I don't think we bought the wrong bikes as neither of us knew what type of riding we were going to be doing but after 4 months and more than 2000km we found that less than 10% of it was on the road so we bought more suitable bikes. The short time I owned the KLX I learnt a lot about modifying bikes and researching potential modifications thanks mainly to this forum. Thanks Guys.
