...........................and bought a sport touring machine that leans toward touring. Of all the miles I ride, most are inevitably on the freeway. So now I cruise in complete comfort, but can still play in the twisties. With a passenger, it's faster in the twisties than any sportbike I had.

I have to laugh a little when I hear people describing the Magna or V-max. No doubt they are fast, soem of the fastest in their era, but time has marched on and i think they give the sensation of speed due to the more upright seating position, but don't be mistaken, any of the new 1000cc sportbikes are almost 200lbs lighter, and make around 160HP at the rear wheel with shorter gearing.

Of course today's liter bike is going to be faster. To compare the acceleration of those to a cruiser from a quarter century ago is just plain silly.

I ended up with a 2007 BMW R1200RT. It has all the cool electronic goodies... more than my car in fact. ABS, Traction Control, Cruise control, electronic suspension adjustment, power windscreen, heat grips and seat. I didn't get the radio/CD player though.
Basically I went hte completely opposite direction as the KLX. Wierd things happen after you get married. I can't complain, some guys lose their toys, I get nicer ones because my wife likes riding on them better.

I guess I read his post different. I have a friend at work that hasn;t ridden bikes in 15 years, and he still thinks a V-max from '85, supposedly the year it was "unrestricted" is the fastest thing ever with the "v-boost" 2 stage carbs. I guess that post reminded me of that.
I agree either bike would still be a sleeper. Even the KLX up to about 50mph is a bit of a sleeper.

Bulls, A couple of friends of mine have the Honda Shadow and they love them! I think that would be a great alternative to the Harley. When it comes to bikes you just have to get the one that makes you feel good. That is what it's all about.
The V65 was a beast in the day! It was one of the fastest bikes out and it sounded great.
Motoguy, how bout some pics? How you liking that bemer?

My friend sold his R1100RT w/ 80,000 + miles and got one of the first R1200RT. He loves it. I always liked the looks of the R1100 much better and he agrees with that, but funcionally he says the R12 blows away the R11.

Buell TT is a nice compromise bike. It's got the tires of the Ulysses. The suspension is a compromise between the Uly and the standard Lightning. 105HP and will lean to 39 degrees in the twisties if you so desire.
Having a KLX, TT, and VRod, I can't wait to hear what everyone is saying about the 'Harley guys'.....

I think I've narrowed it down to two choices.
Ok maybe more than two choices.
Who am I kidding, I'll never narrow it down. That's why I'm gonna have to buy them all.
