Depends on the thickness of the case there. If there was enough thickness, I would use a pipe tap and put a plug in it with teflon tape. This way you aren't depending on the surface of the case being perpendicular to the threads. It likely won't be after you tap it. Put grease on the tap so you pull the chips out with it.

Even though this is one in a million mishap, I think I am going to take out the two bolts on my skid plate that go to the cross beam just to be on the safe side. You would still have the two clamps on the front that came with the skid plate and the two factory bolts in the back.
