Countershaft Sprocket

RE: Countershaft Sprocket
I had to use heat and an air impact gun to get mine loose!! I recommend getting the right socket size because if it is really tight you do not want to strip that nut.[sm=noooo.gif] Then you will be in a world of s**t!![sm=smiley19.gif]

I haven't tried it, but I'm with Marty. Sometimes it pays to read the book. Page 10-4 in the Service manual supplement indicates that it is necessary to "flatten out the bended washer" before trying to remove the nut...

RE: Countershaft Sprocket
Having just gone through the ordeal this afternoon, I can relate. Other than unbending the retaining washer, a 17" breaker bar with a 27 mm socket did the trick. I had my girlfriend standing on the rear brake for me ... so rowdy comments about the nut's family lineage didn't seem to be too professional.
FYI - Tried a hand impact driver for a while, but that got me nowhere in a hurry. I also sprayed the nut with WD-40 last night and again this afternoon ... don't know if that helped or not.

Y'all did remember to unbend the retention washer? It does make the job LOTS easier!

Got mine loose by using my floor jack handle on the end of my 16" half inch drive ratchet, I slid a long 3/8 drive extention though the rear sprocket slot across the swing arm..... I dont think anything else would have worked,,that thing was friggin tight!!

RE: Countershaft Sprocket
I bought an 1/2 inchelectric impact gun from www.harborfreight.com.
It was $79.95 and it took off the nut instantaneously.
I just got a flyer in the mail and they have it on sale nowfor $39.95! That's an absolute steal!
It doesn't help me though....
