The "other" electronic devices are in EMP bags, which are like faraday cages. They have been tested and verified to protect electronic devices. Heck, I can stick a cellphone in a bag and call it and it won't ring. Since there are so many unknowns to the effects of a solar flare or EMP it does no harm to throw them in such bags. Maybe the GPS will work maybe it won't. What harm does it do to throw one in there. The iPhone as an example isn't in there for phone use, it isn't even active. But it has a ton of survivalist resources, static maps and information that would be useful in an emergency. I also have good old fashion manuals as well in case the phone is useless. With prepping it's all about redundancy. So when I ask about bike components that could prevent the bike from running I'm looking at if from the standpoint of redundancy. I have no problem buying a spare CDI and sticking it in an EMP bag if that's all that would prevent the bike from running.

This guy is right. As an aside, yes the bike will run without the instrument panel. How do I know? Mine hasn't been charging the battery right and once I finally bump started the thing, it would run but none of the dash was working minus the light, and all of the lighting was very dim. Yet it never died once up. Dealer is trying to figure it out now.
